Micheal Owen signed 2 year contract with MU after less then 48 hours of negotiation. This is the dream sign-in for Ferguson and Owen. At lease Ferguson have someone free to replace Ronaldo and Owen get a contract for another 2 years. What do you think of this latest news. Could it be sign-in of the season or nightmare of the season for Alex Ferguson.

It's a no-brainer - you omit one important fact... Owen cost them NOTHING to sign, he will play for £50k a week which is an absolute bargain for Man U - This is a dream ticket for both player and club. Man U can give Owen the experience he needs ie. high profile games surrounded by players that can actually provide him with opportunities - he will score of that there is no doubt. What club in the world would not want to be able to bring Michael Owen into a game when they need a goal?? He has had a difficult time since he left Liverpool and that has affected his game enormously, but his ability to score has remained and that is what Fergie has bought, a proven, loyal and committed goal-scorer. Will Owen be angling to move to another club next year? - NO - he's already done his stint in Madrid... If Fergie hadn't stepped in, I would fear for a rejuvenation of Michael's career - now I think he is going to show himself to be one of the best English footballers we have, and England should be grateful to a Scottish manager for the effect this will have. Man U have the back room staff to get Michael into first-rate condition they are past masters of this, just look at Scholes, Giggs, Solskaer and the like who Man U have nurtured right from their teenage years into their late twenties and early thirties. Replacement for Ronaldo - no of course not, not even for Tevez.. they have not signed a replacement, they have signed Michael Owen...

I didn't mean 'experience' in that sense - I meant that he needs to get some quality games under his belt, I would love to see him playing for England again, and he will need some recent relevant playing 'experience' to persuade Fabio Capello to pick him. I believe Man U have the medical staff to look after Owen properly - the reason that Giggs and Scholes are in great shape is because they are at a great club that knows how to look after them. Who's to say that Owen given the same circumstances and facilities will not stay as free of injury as these two? He was more of a talisman for Newcastle - a one-off, Man U are used to taking good care of older players - The only place that might do it better is AC Milan!

Hi livewyre, Experience? From what I know Owen is the most experience striker that England have right now but he didn't have a chance to play for England. What Owen need is a games. And he definitely can hardly get it at MU. Unless Rooney or Barbetov is injured. About that injury thing, you can't compare what Owen have experience with Scholes or Giggs. Both Scholes and Giggs hardly get injured and they didn't get all the time played because of their stamina. There is nothing to do with injury. Owen, otherwise, hardly get played because of his fitness. Btw, good luck to Owen and MU. Have a nice day.

I know he's not a replacement at the moment, but who knows........... Maybe he'll turn out to become just like Solksjaer and Giggs. And you're right about the fact that Owen might prove himself to be the best striker of England but for that he'll have to stay perfectly fit, which has been such a problem for him.

I really do feel happy for Owen! I've loved him since his days in Liverpool but recently he made some wrong decisions and also suffered from injuries whichkept him out of action. But now he's ready to help ManU with coping in the BPL without Ronaldo.

Hi SiddFisher, Owen is a good player but his time is almost over. He is too sensitive with body contact. He is to fragile. How many games he has played since he left Liverpool? And how many of the as a first 11? The answer is very low compare to his quality. Most of the time he is with the doctor. By the way, wish him good luck.

Well, I mentioned that already that He's been out due to injury for a long long time. But I was only saying that he'll be nice to watch. And BTW he's not very old also only 29....OK it is quite old according to today's standards but then look at Del Piero, he played last season very well at an absurd age of 37.

Some player can play until he reach 40s. Look at Roger Milla, the Cameroon striker. he still play at world cup at 42. But I don't think Owen can even reach 33 and still play active football with his current condition. I still love to see him when he play for Newcastle. But with MU, emmmm .. I think you know the answer mate.

I think it wasn't such a good idea to get Owen... He's been on the downside for a while now... Maybe the only positive thing about this is Man Utd didn't have to pay for him (from what I understand, he was a free player)... I hope he'll prove me wrong and score loads of goals.

Hi stvasile, I agree with you. Even though I like the way he play but he is never get fit for long time. Fit for 2 weeks then broke again for 2 months. There is no point to have a free sign-in but not fit players. You maybe save a penny on transfer fee but still have to pay for players salaries. Unless they put pay for performance on their contract, it still a waste of money. Thank you for your comment and have a nice day.

Michael Owen is one of the best English players ever. However, I doubt if either Michael Owen nor Sir Alex Ferguson will get the desired result from this contract. Owen has seen better playing days and if I were him, I would have gone to a club with not so high a profile as Manchester United. I mean he should have gone to a club where he should have better chance of securing a place in the starting eleven. I doubt if that is going to be the case in Manchester United. There are too many young, highly talented, skillful and dedicated players who are hungry for success. They sure won't just be contented sitting on the bench. Ferguson is an experienced manager and I just cannot seem to understand this "joke" of his. Well, we have to wait and see before concluding if the deal was a good one or otherwise. I hope the development next season for Manchester United and Michael Owen will prove me wrong. I wish Michael Owen the very best of luck.

Hi emmanola, Yes ... Owen is no doubt a great player. But his time is near the end already. With his all the time unfit, I think he should go to Hull rather then MU. For his England career ambitions, I doubt Owen will happy with his move. He for sure know that he can hardly get play, not to mention to be in first 11. I am pretty sure he would not manage to play 10 games as a first 11 even when he fit. MU have a few other striker and Owen must know that his place is in bench. I don't think that Capello will have a tough about Owen anymore. And Owen should kiss good bye to his England dream. Good luck to M Owen and have a nice day to you emmanola.

The Old Trafford team management and the owner must be rejoicing over the fact that they've got a proven goalscorer in the premiership for free. I though believe that Owen for signed to replace Tevez whose left the club. Smart move considering the amount of money that was saved. But, how much of an impact he'll have on United remains to be seen. I guess he'll be played as an impact player like Tevez last season with Rooney and Berba starting. His injury prone body is also a big concern. Lets wait and watch.

Hi rahul-2689, Yeah ... it is nice move by Ferguson. Get a great striker for free. But as you said the only problem is Owen fitness. His body seen can't take any contact anymore. He is just like a glass. Too fragile. Easily broken. But since they signed a pay for play contract, MU still have a nice bargain. Thank you for your comment and have a nice day.

i doubt that MU sign owen to replaced ronaldo. they play in a different position, right? more close enough that owen will replace tevez roles in MU i think. i guess it will not be a sign-in of the season or nightmare of the season either. yes, owen isn't over yet. if he got much chance, he will shown to the world his capability. with lots of good player in MU and under fergie, owen have a chance to shine again.

Hi Sangkala, I used Owen to replace Ronaldo is only a hype. Owen is a striker and Ronaldo is more on midfielder, everybody know that. For me, Ferguson will have a nightmare for sign-in Owen. How many games Owen played since he left Liverpool? I think he is the highest paid unused player on earth since then. He spend more time on treatment table then on the field. Owen will shine again? Of course. BUT, he keep fit and played. And, I don't think he will get them both. He is more likely to be unused bench warmer (if he fit to play). Thank you for your response and have a nice day.
