There is a town under water close to where I live. The town is Danville, TN, and it was flooded in 1941 when TVA was getting started with hydro-electric power. I have looked everywhere online for photos of old Danville, but all I can find are photos of "modern" Danville, which includes a boatramp, docks an old railroad bridge and an old grain elevator. If anyone knows how to track down this info online, I'd like to have some pictures. Otherwise I will try to contact some of the old timers who lived there as children.

Hi clrumfelt. I'm a fellow Tennesseean as well. I'd never heard of Danville but the story is interesting. If you can't find any pictures on the net the only thing I can think of is either checking for archived photos either in Nashville or the home county of Danville. And I don't know who you would need to talk to about that either. Sorry. Guess that's part of the fun of research. Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions. See the links in the above post for information about Danville. I plan to research some more at my local library.

Honestly, while I had heard some about the TVA, I never paid much attention to it/them until my sister moved to Tenn. Then I still didn't pay much attention to it, but I read a really fun book called Zombies of the Gene Pool by Sharyn McCrumb. I know this doesn't help, but might get you to read her book (that has something to do about a TVA lake and a murder mystery.)

The book sounds interesting. Thanks for your comments.

Danville is one little town that seems to have nearly vanished from TN History. I have been told a few things by people whose families had lived there. My husband's mom lived there as a child(she is deceased) but I've been able to locate no pictures of the town that was there. Here are a couple of newspaper articles posted on the internet that have given me some information.
