Hi amibotea, one of my favourite childhood books was 'Anne of Green Gables' with her fabulous dilemna of is it better to be beautiful, clever or a good person. As she was an orphan she was certainly at the whim of mature people but she always made the best of it. She could also read the character of mature people very well from the too easy to speak her mind 'Mrs Lynn' to the teacher whose class she walked out of. The unknown in this book is the new life she is taken into and the danger is the woods combined with too much imagination.
