Although i don't want to watch the news, i feel like I have to know what is going on. The problem that I have is that since all the news is about same is getting killed or shot I found it very negative. I stop watching the news for like two weeks and then i start watching it again, but right after hearing all the bad things, I fear that inhumanity is being normal. The thing that I'm worried off is that I start depicting things and I get all worked up and I don't like that. What do you think, do you think that I should stop watching news?

I agree, you should stop watching, or at least switch to another channel. I don't care to watch television news. However, I don't currrently watch a lot of tv in general. The problem I have, had, with this kind of new is it focuses too much on small issues and celebrity issues. Now, I read more newspapers and online news. That way I can pick and choose and have a wider scope.

Yes, i think that hearing or watching news online is better than what is on tv, because it's more complete and you'll just keep on reading with the links available.

I watch news everyday in the morning and in the evening. I want to know the latest news that are happening in our country. Even sometimes the news is still the same but I like to informed myself. No matter how negative the news is I still got interested to watch them. Scandals and controversies are always in the news and people always talked about them.

I do watch news but just like you, I get disappointed whenever the news are just always about murder, someone getting killed, or a house was on fire. But then news is news. The only problem is that the media is so corrupted with news that should not be shown in primetime television. The news networks has to be careful on what they show on television because not everyone who watches news are adults. Kids also do watch it whenever they're with their parents. It's just always full of violence. I just think you should be careful in watching news. Just anticipate all the time if you think that the news is about to show something that's negative then might as well not watch it. Or, just choose the kind of news that you watch.

I watch news. Although the media hypes most of the news, but still I do watch the news channels to get an idea of what is happening around actually. But there are very few news channels that provide you with genuine information. Most of them are commercialised and they just telecast some craps at times just inorder to increase the view rate or TRP ratings. Whenever I have my Breakfast and Dinner, I used to tune into the news channels and watch what are all the current happenings around us.

I don't watch the news I actually read it.. This way it gives me a choice on what I want to know and hear.. Sure i have come across alot of sad news but that's my choice to read it.. The news sometimes can be so over whelming that I don't care to see it as the media sometimes does go overboard on certain things.. I'd say stop watching and watch something more interesting with less bad things!

Yeah I get what you mean but you also must know what is going on around you ! It is very arrogant to say that you will cut yourself off from the news simply because you dont like what is going on or because the news is "negative". I personally dont watch the news here in the states because it is very biased and it never gives an accurate description of what is going on around the world. However, I do resort to other more reliable sources online. That way I am able to see the entire version of the story and it wont be so one sided! We live in a cruel world, and most of the news nowadays is going to be negative, but that really should not make you not watch the news. Ignorance is our biggest enemy, and if we dont watch the news than we will be ignorant and it will make this world even worse! My advice to you, is to read the news online or any reliable source! Dont let what is going on around the world to discourage you from being knowledgeable! good luck

I live in the states and I absolutely hate the news that is broadcasted here! It is very biased and you will never truly get the other side of things, that is why I dont rely too much on news here! I dont not watch the news because it is negative, its quite the opposite actually, you should read and be aware even if it is negative. We dont like hearing or seeing negative things but we still should play a responsible role in our society and know what is going on, even if its something you dont want to know about. I dont watch the news on tv here but I do not cut myself off completely, I use the internet to read other news sources. that way I can still be aware of whats going on around me and yet not be cheated by what the U.S media wants us to see ! My advice to you, dont stop watching the news just because you dont like what you see. That is not very smart, but make sure that you get your news from reliable sources !

Personally I watch the news an hour a day to keep informed and not all news is bad. There is alot of informative information there. I don't think you should stop watching the news just look for the good things on the newscast as welll as the "bad". You can learn a lot about things and events you may not have thought of. Use it as a learning tool.

I used to watch the news every nite before i went to sleep when I was single, but when I got married i stop watching it because my wife (like you thought that the news always has some negative and news of someone getting shot or killed). But i have talked her into it, because i feel its Important to be up to date with current affairs and not live in your own world. Its a bit naive.

you are right there when you say you feel like you have to know what is going on. you like it or not it is necessary for everybody to keep update on happenings. the problem is tv has sensationalised news presentations to incredibly outrageous and farcical level- at least some channel. this is putting off many sinsible also from watching news. from the responses to this discussion i guess tv is doing great harm to the concept of news dissemination. you should follow the newspapers and journals to strike a balance beween what is real and what is hype. at least journals and newspapers are not so bad but do watch you get first hand and you get visuals. p s avoid watching of violent and gory visuals at early morning or late night newscasts

I do watch the news on the TV to keep myself informed and updated with the developments in the country and around the world. I am more interested in the business news than the political related news since I do international trading business. I also read the daily newspaper , the business section especially. Have a nice day !

The news is indeed mainly depressing the world round. Some times one does get the feeling the earth will come to its end before the night is out. When its not mass killings its one country threatening the other and then there is the constant murders. Not even the kids are spared the onslaught of insanity. Certainly humanity cant continue like this.

I usually watch the local news. One of our local channels has this new thing going where they dedicate the first 15 minutes of every program to telling us good and positive news. It can be really uplifting. I cannot stand to watch channels such as CNN. They pick one or two topics, and that is all they talk about...for days!! In my opinion, if they are such a large news station, then they should be able to constantly give us new news. That is why they call it news to begin with.
