http://shrinkify.com/1051 "BERLIN (Reuters) - A badger in Germany got so drunk on over-ripe cherries it staggered into the middle of a road and refused to budge, police said on Wednesday. A motorist called police near the central town of Goslar to report a dead badger on a road -- only for officers to turn up and discover the animal alive and well, but drunk. Police discovered the nocturnal beast had eaten cherries from a nearby tree which had turned to alcohol and given the badger diarrhoea. Having failed to scare the animal away, officers eventually chased it from the road with a broom." i didnt know you could get drunk off of over riped cherries?!!? and how did they know it was that? i wish they had video!! lol.. have you ever seen an animal drunk?

I've heard of it before, but I've never seen it. The closest I have seen is an over-gluttonous robin eating our cherries until he couldn't fly any more. I watched this robin eat and eat until his belly was bulging. Then he tried to fly and he dropped to the ground (our miniature tree is only a couple feet high). He kept flapping his wings and trying to hop up. He tried about 3 times and then decided he had to walk home.

If the poor animal had the runs, maybe the cops should have had a mop instead of a broom

I'm guessing that they found some cheery pits in the diarrhea that was undoubtedly near the anilmal(that just filled my "that's just too gross" quota for the day). I guess the cherries fermented on the tree? I don't see how that's possible without them just being plain old rotten, but maybe the badger was just lookin for a good time? It's amazing that the animal didn't get run over.

Hi Moon...and I bet that was a sight. I had an uncle who had a old hound dog and they lived in the hills of West Virginia. I don't know if you know anything about the hills of West Virginia, but people there have alot of moonshine stills. Well my uncle and grandpa were not any different and every Saturday they would go walking to check out the still and the old hound dog would traspe right along with them. Anyway they would taste it to see how much longer it was going to need to cook and so did "Henry " the old hounddog and of course you never could really tell how close to being done it was on just one taste so they would spend most of Saturday night there. My Uncle, My grampy and Henry and they would all get sickin fall down drunk and poor henry he just wasn't the same for a few days after. flutterby

Hi Moon and yes they still have them and probably some of my distant relatives still brew. The sign that they had some for sale use to be washed white sheets hanging on the porch. Everyone in the hills had a clothesline on their porch becasue they used it summer and winter. I put one on my porch when I moved to Pennsylvania and my husband made me take it down. I didn't see any problem with it but he said he didn't want people going down the road seeing hid briefs hanging on the porch. So I just moved it from the front porch to the back porch...smaller, but still works...lol flutterby
