Have you ever seen your stuff in a TV programme?

Last week, I was watching 'Coronation Street.' There was the usual crisis in the Platt household, and they made a cup of tea. I did a double take, because they were using 'my' mugs! Well, not exactly my mugs, but the same pattern and colours of the mugs I bought in Argos last year. Then this morning, on Breakfast Time, an author whose book had been adapted for TV was wearing one of those magnetic 'snakes' that can either be a bracelet or a necklace and are primarily intended to relieve arthritis symptoms but seem to have become a fashion item. It was exactly the same as mine! Have you ever seen someone on TV wearing or using something exactly the same as something you own, and what did you think about it? From now on, I'll tell everyone who comes for tea or coffee that they're drinking out of 'Coronation Street' mugs!

Good morning Sandra, well I can't say I recall or maybe I'm just not that observant, I'm sure I'll think of something later. I did spot quite a few people I know on TV if that counts, they were filming some ghastly Greek soap opera locally for a few days and of course I dutifully sat through the hystionics to observe some local fisherman characters in the background, having presumabley refused to move out of their local cafenion.

Yes, Thea, we'll count it - I mean, they're your neighbours, aren't they,so in the loosest sense of the word, something of yours appeared on TV. A few years ago, they filmed 'Songs of Praise' in Padstow, which is very near to us in Cornwall. My son worked in the local bakery, and they filmed in there, so we sat down to watch, hoping to see him. All we saw was his hand crimping a pasty, and then Aled Jones at the door of the bakery. As if that wasn't bad enough, none of the people I know - and I know nearly everyone, as it's a small village - recognised any of the 'locals' that were interviewed or in the congregation.

Well Sandra, importing locals is a good one, may I ask what was wrong with the real ones? Hope you didn't ring round and tell all your friends that your son was going to be on TV. I'm glad you accept the local fisherman as things of mine, they are certainly a permanent fixture in my life!

We all asked what was wrong with real locals at the time. Apparently, they preferred to include people with second homes in the area, some of them minor celebrities, who coincidentally (!!!) timed one of there 2 visits a year to fall during the filming. Luckily, I hadn't said anything about my son being on, but I did record the programme as proof, which was pretty useless, as the hand could have belonged to anyone!

Yes I remember seeing the character in east enders Ronnie wearing the exact same boots as mine. I was mad because I thought I was the only person in UK who had them pair of boots as everytime I wore them everyone was like "cool boots where did you get 'em?" I actually got them from River Island at 25% discount sale! The point is I wore the boot first before her so yep I was mad lol....

Hello Jelly. Well, at least you saw them on a Babe and not an Old Boot! (Sorry, couldn't resist that!) I bet they looked better on you, though. Were they thigh high with stiletto heels, to go with the whip you use on Robert? Just curious.

When (Roseanne) was on the air, I use to see a lot of things we had, on her show, from furniture to food they were eating, even right down to the afgan she had on the back of her couch, I made (MINE) from a pattern and I guess someone made hers from the same pattern too. I think that is so cool! And a few weeks ago on the news there was a story about a little puppy who fell into a deep empty post hole and the fire department had to rescue him and standing there watching was a little girl holding one of (my) homemade rag dolls! I would know MY dolls anywhere and these people lived in another state, now how cool is that! It made me feel happy to know some little girl loves MY rag doll! Oh by the way the puppy was alright and the hole was filled in!

Well there was even more drama in the Platt household tonight! But getting back to the subject, well sort off. I caught a bit of daytime TV today, one of those 'cash for your trash' type things and to my amazement there was a shot of my parents shop on the screen. It turns out the show had been shot in the town I live and they had gone to one of the shops down the arcade from my parents. To say I got the surprise of my life to see my parents shop on tv, even thought it was just a camera panning past it, is an understatement. I also remember a few years back watching one of the soaps and of the characters had exactly the same duvet and curtains in their bedroom which I found quite funny.

Hey, that's a good one! A shop on TV has to be the ultimate 'your stuff on the telly.' Don't think anyone's going to beat that. The duvet and curtains is quite tame after that, but well done, anyway. When I started the topic, I didn't expect to get so many responses, but I've been proved wrong again - nothing new there!

I live in Chicago, and every once in a while a movie or tv show will do some filming here. While I know it's not just "my city", I just think it's the coolest thing to recognize a particular place in the film. Now I'm not talking about one of the more famous sites, like the Sears Tower, Wrigley Field, or the Picasso, but like a small neighborhood scene. The tv show Early Edition shot here and one day going to work I saw something being filmed but didn't know what. While watching the show, I saw the scene they had been filming. It was pretty cool.

It's nice to see your location on TV. Lots of things are filmed in Cornwall and Devon in England, so we're always seeing places we know.

Yes. I went out and bought a handbag and in the epidsode of coronation street I watched the same day I saw Fiz using the same handbag! I'm sure she didn't have it before then. She still uses it, that blue/black one. I now use a more summery coloured one. Maisy Wilde in Emmerdale has my blue frilled front coat as well! It isn't always nice seeing someone on tv wearing the same stuff as you, because if it looks bad on them, you start to think it might look bad on you as well However, if it looks good on them you feel more confident wearing it yourself. I haven't seen anyone using my coffee mugs yet. I suppose your corrie mugs will make a good ice-breaker when friends come round for a cuppa

I'll look out for the bag now, and the coat. One thing it proves to me is that at least the props and wardrobe departments are aiming for realism by using things we're all likely to use. I mean, it would be a bit much if Fiz headed for the factory carrying a designer bag, wouldn't it? Thanks for the response.

Yes, I agree. It really does add a realism to the shows, especially when the plots get a bit far fetched..lol:)

I do not watch much TV, so that has not happened to me, but I think it is really cool that it happened to you. I would provbably join in the fun with the "Coronation Street" mugs.

I was even more surprised by the necklace this morning. Mind you, I expect she paid more for hers than I did for mine. They're only 1 euro each in the markets in Spain. Oh well, at least I can truthfully say I have an interest in two TV programmes!
