I want a pupy

I have been really wanting a puppy for a while. My boyfriend and I live together and he keeps saying no even though he wants one. I think I'm really wanting one lately because now that I'm unemployed I'm stuck at home because we share a car and he needs it for work. The puppy would keep me company while he's working and whatnot. But he won't tell me why he is so against getting one right now. We are in an apartment that is about 1,000 square feet...and we both like tiny dogs. We have talked previously about chihuahas or miniature schnauzers (we both have those at home with our families). But what is a good way to bring it up without him shutting me down or at least finding out why he doesn't want a dog right now. Yes I know that they are expensive and whatnot but we do have the extra money right now even though I'm not working...

Puppies are great! I know because I have one and she is now 2. She is toy poodle with an extremely mild temper and fun to play with. But having a dog at home is like having a child. Besides the cost and expenses of food, grooming and medical bills, they demand a lot of care, attention and love. They should be taken merely as pets but more like an additional family member, who deserves equal amount of love and attention. A desire to have a puppy does not equate to a commitment to the responsibility required to raise and train the puppy. It's always nice to play with someone's else puppies but you do not experience the insensentive barking and whining in the early hours in the morning or the smell of pee and poo in the apartment when you come back from your work after a hard day. Could it be the fact that your boyfriend refused to have a puppy because of the responsibilities that comes with it and he is not ready or thinks that you are not ready to shoulder these responsibilities. Just like having a baby, there is no turning back, once the puppy comes home.

Why dont you see if a neighbour has a dog they would like walking - perhaps they dont really have the time to spare for whatever reason. That way you wont be stuck at home, you can spend time with a dog and it wont cost you anything (you might even consider dog-walking as a paid service), nor trash your apartment, nor upset your boyfriend. Everyone wins
