Did you have to wear braces?

Just wondering how many myLot folk have worn braces on their teeth when they were younger in order to make them straight. I know most people have them when they are young, but I have seen older people with braces before too. I wore braces when I was younger (around 15 years old).

I wore braces in my thirties because my parents couldn't afford them and it took that long for me to be able to afford them

A mixture of getting pregnant and having a bad dentist.

I never had to. My dad really should have, but his family could not afford it. I think he'd like to do something about them now, but he can't afford it now anyway, no dental insurance. His smile doesn't look funny, so I guess he'll be satisfied. But sometimes I think it bothers him.

I'm not sure what you mean, is private treatment the only option...

You were lucky, as most people I know are not blessed to have naturally straight teeth! It is meant to be much more painful when you get older, but if it does bother your dad, is private treatment the only option?

I do think that the period of wearing braces is annoying and painful yes, but for me personally I am glad I did, as I am quite proud of my smile!

when my permanent teeth started growing, my mom had to take me to the dentist to get the old teeth out of the way, so new once would grow strait. most of the time it was painless because the old once were already very close to falling out, but one of the teeth decided to grow between two teeth, one was about to fall, but the other one was staying strong... i hurt a lot to have it pulled, but in return i never had to wear braces, my teeth were perfectly strait without them :)

Hi Shree, no I've never worn braces neither have I ever been to the dentist. I've never had any teeth problem thanks to my grandma. She made a great remedy which was she took pieces of porcelain, broken glasses, sand, charcoal, herbal leaves and chili peppers. She mixed them together, pounded them till they powder and rubbed it on my teeth. (I was two years old when she did this) it was so bloody painful as the chili burnt my mouth for 24 hours. But after she did that, I've never had teeth problems again. I got white sparkling teeth and they have all been propotionally aligned.

That sounds like a very strange treatment if you don't mind my saying. I do think it is probably wise however to still see your dentist.

yes it is a strange and barbaric method but it worked! Anyway I don't like dentists as they freak me out so you won't catch me going in their office. I prefer the DIY tooth check up and that works fine.. plus reduces my bills!

Hi there! My teeth are fine and I haven't wore any braces in my entire life. But I know they are painful cause my sister had them when she was a teenager. I have seen some adults too still wearing braces. I even know some who just had them in their mid 30's. I have been wondering, are braces still effective for older people wearing them? Aren't teeth suppose to be more pliable when we are still young?

I think they are less effective the older a person is yes, and that is why they are reccommended at a young age, to mould the teeth to grow in the desired position

Hi UK_Shree! I had braces when I was 35 for about a year and one month. I didn't really have crooked teeth but really did help them to look better. Not that they looked bad but I had and still have an open bite, for one thing. Also, I had itchy gums, if that makes sense, when I was younger. They quit bothering me for several years. Then they started bothering me again when I was 35, which meant that recession was getting worse. Kathy.
