I heard about this movie during the protests in Iran following their election last month. It's based on a true story about a young Iranian woman falsely accused of adultery who was stoned to death in the mid 1980's. You can read more about this movie here: http://www.more.com/2049/5644-a-stoning-in-iran--shohreh Also, you can see a sneak peek here: http://www.more.com/2049/5707-a-sneak-peek-at--the#1 This story is quite compelling but I'm not sure if I could watch it or not, it would be too disturbing I'm afraid. Watching a gory horror flick is one thing but this really happened, and not all that long ago. I don't want to think about whether it still can or does happen today! Any comments? Has anyone seen it or will anyone see it? Annie

Hello anniepa, since first reading 'Not Without My Daughter' I've always been drawn to subjects like this and would definitely watch the film if I had the chance. Wouldn't do the gory horror flick though. There is little chance however of seeing the film you mention out here so will have to put it on the list for maybe one day!

I see from your profile you're not from the U.S. Did you mean this movie won't be shown in your country? Annie

Hi anniepa, the film may well be shown here but it is a long trip up to the cinema so tend to rely on films on DVD or youtube, I certainly wasn't trying to imply it would be banned or anything like that.

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding! I wasn't sure if maybe it could be banned in some countries. You never know, there probably are places it won't be shown, such as Iran. Annie

The thing is, as I recall from the TV report I saw about this story and movie, it was a trumped up charge by the woman's husband who himself was having an affair and wanted to marry his lover. Annie

I haven't heard of it but, it sounds pretty good. I really like movies that are based on real events. I have seen so many of them "Amistad", "Hotel Rwanda" and so many more. Even though most of the time these movies are so sad they actually help people understand what happened and in some cases ("Hotel Rwanda") it opens peoples eyes as to what is still going on and how no nation has helped out those failing countries.

You're right and I think this movie should be seen by as many people as can stand to watch. I say that because it must be horrifying and disturbing, to be sure, but just knowing something like that happened in my daughter's lifetime, not just mine, is essential. Since this is a true story about a real person it will put a face on the horror. Annie
