I have a friend who doesn't want her baby doing thumb sucking. She doesn't want her baby doing such. Way back in college, one instructor told us that it is ok to thumsuck since babies under the ORAL Stage. And she also said that one must undergo this developmental task. She also mentioned that Psychologists say that most of the Alcoholics and Smokers were found not to fulfill that Oral Stage when they were still babies, that's the reason why they behave and so such things. I would say, that depends on the environment and they nurture the baby as well. What can you say about this one?

As a mother, i let my son to do thumb sucking coz every babies need to undergo with that stages, we don't need to deprive it to them, coz they just sooth and enjoy themselves. I just make sure that his thumb is clean, so it safe from dirt. Im sure one day he stop doing it when he is ready. Happy posting.

Yes. I agree. They will not be doing that on the right time. And yes, keeping the baby's thumb matters most. Happy Mylotting!

According to this article I read, it doesn't harm a baby. Babies generally suck their thumb to soothe themselves, which is good, because they need to learn how to rely on their own resources. The ability to regulate or control one's behavior and emotions is an important developmental challenge. When your child sucks her thumb, she's finding ways to make herself feel better without your help. You don't have to stop your child from sucking her thumb right now. In general, thumb-sucking is more irritating to parents than it is harmful to kids. Your baby will stop when she's ready and has developed other ways of soothing herself. http://www.babycenter.com/404_my-baby-sucks-her-thumb-all-the-time-should-i-try-and-stop-h_6817.bc
