Who are you?

I was watching the movie “Anger Management” starring Jack Nicholson and Adam Sandler. Jack plays a psychologist, Dr. Rydell. Adam is basically a mild-mannered businessman who has been sentenced by the court to take an anger management course. However, the main thrust of this discussion is the question Dr. Rydell asks Dave. “Who are you?” Dave’s reply has to do with his job. Dr. Rydell says “I don’t want to hear what you do. Who are you?” Then Dave goes into his character traits — words to the effect, “I’m a nice guy...” Dr. Rydell says something like, “That’s about your personality. Who are you?” By that time Dave is getting frustrated and doesn’t know how to answer the question. Gee, I don’t know how to answer the question, either. Do you? Weird. I’ve lived with myself all my life but where is the bottom line of who I am?
Tell me, dear myLotters, who are you? If you have some inkling about how to answer the question, please share.

You are who you are. I think that's a good answer that sums it all up neatly without making it complicated. Thanks for your response.

In honesty, I wouldn't know how to answer that question either. I hate those kinds of questions...they make me feel stupid for not knowing the answer. I think shrinks ask you stuff like that just to make themselves look smarter.

Hi Joyce, Yes a very difficult question to answer but mine would be multi faceceted , me, mum, lover, daughter, sister and friend amongst many other things, a pretty up and together individual who adjusts and adapts to people and situations around her but remains true to herself and her beliefs whilst carrying out these various different life roles. I don't know if Dr. Rydell in the movie would accept that response, but it sounds like a good description of who you are in my opinion. Thanks for sharing.

i saw this movie its a very nice movie......well the question "who are you?" is very difficult to answer....but what dr. rydell tried to teach dave was just to express your feelings and not to be afraid of any one just say what you feel thats what i think the movie says i guess........
