Why is it that writers have to show people to be so stupid?

Every time I see a trailer for a comedy now days they show people being depicted as idiots. To dumb to live! Why? Why can't a person of normal intelligence have a rather alarming run in with whatever, live through it, and the show is entertaining and funny? Why can't this happen? I hate to see the female gender acting like such low class idiots. Give women everywhere a bad name and irrates the bejeseus out of me. What can we do? Quit going to these idiotic movies? That isn't going to happen. And I take it people really find them amusing too. Is it just me or are there other people out there that feel this way?

Hi celticeagle, well if these are the sort of comedies which are being churned out these days then they obviously must do well in the ratings would be my guess. Just like non entity celebrities making the news really. Everything is being dumbed down for mass appeal of the lowest common denominator. Bring back 'Frasier' I say.

Not sure what all that meant but, yes, I do agree on Frasier. One of the best ever created on tv. Thanks.

The tv show that really brings it home for me is Married With Children. So degrading to women. I find very little funny in most of the comedies on tv or in the movies now days. One and a half men for instance and How I met your mother. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. So disgraceful. And so sad that writers and directors can't do something about it with their job descriptions what they are.

i dont see where the women are any more idiot acting then the men myself? there are also many men acting stupid. for a laugh. are you meaning movies or sitcoms or real life/? i think its pretty equal. have you ever watched 2 and 1/2 men? those act like a lot of REAL men act. and its hilarious. i've known many men just like all of them on there if you are talking reality? i watch survivor and they are also equally dumb and smart of both genders.

I so agree. I meant any of these that writers write for. Two and a half men is exactly what I am talking about.

"Why can't a person of normal intelligence have a rather alarming run in with whatever, live through it, and the show is entertaining and funny?" There aren't any writers of normal intelligence who can come up with such a story.

Ahh.. comedies are a vibrant source of debate. One of the main theories in comedy, or should we say comical analysis, is that, people psychologically find that acts of stupidity, unnatural body movement and motion, and including babbling are a true source of laughter. I just got that from reading literary concepts on entertainment. More to it soon..

I thought maybe you were going to say that people would rather laugh at others stupidity that their own. True source of laughter. Whoever drew up that theory is obviously a screw ball.

With all these kinds of movies, do writers mean that we are a cruel race? God I hope not. I may be a troublemaker or bonfire kindler but I wouldn't think of any act of cruelty just to stir a debate.

I think they do to some degree. We all have over greifs or beefs. It is sad that young kids have to see this. But they should be taught to be respectful regardless.
