My baby was born 16 weeks early. He has been in the hospital for 3 months hooked to several different machines to keep him alive. He is getting better day by day, but it is still hard to see him like this. I had to put on depression medicine because I was so depressed. I felt like it was my fault he was hurting. I go to the hospital everyday to see him and even though hes getting better I just sit there and cry. Ive only got to hold him 3 times in the 3 months hes been with us. I hate watching other people take care of my baby and I cant do a thing. I just wanted to see if anyone had any similar stories to share and how you dealt with the pain.

I am lucky in a sense that my children are all born term, so I didn't have to experience your experiences but my sister delivered a premmie last February, she was having eclampsia that's why they had to deliver the baby asap. anyways, she was very strong during the time her baby was in the hospital, yes it hurts that she cannot hold her child as much and as often as she wanted, but that's just how it is, she thought of her baby and drew strength in the knowledge, that first, it wasn't her fault, nature sometimes just wants thing her own way and we have to deal with it, second, that she, by letting her child be taken care of by people who can help him (she had a boy) get better so that after a while she maybe able to get more hugs and more time for her baby. My brother too was a premmie and he turned out well and good. So all's well that ends well.

I've never been in your situation. I hope to never be in your situation. But that doesn't mean that I don't feel for you. Prayers are definitely going out to you and your son. I do, however, have a friend that is in our local playgroup that has been in a very similar situation. Her daughter was a 28 week micro-preemie. Her daughter is now almost 4-years-old, and she is expecting her second child. She is 35 weeks now with the second, but she held a lot of fear that the same thing was going to happen again. Thankfully it isn't. I hope that things continue to go in the right direction for your son.
