I have never heard this before but I do know of the Emperor called Nero and I have reads that he was fiddling while Rome was burning so I guess it makes sense. I use Nero and I had not considered where its name came from until now.

Then i think that the story my friend had told me about Nero was true...but i dont know why they have kept the emperors name for their software, maybe its due to the burning or something...

I have heard this many times when someone who could have prevented a terrible situation was to self absorbed to pay attention and do his duty. It's been around a long time.
