I read it somewhere that the best way to sleep is... side-ways, the pillow really close, touching your shoulder. legs slightly curled. sleeping to your left side is better then right side, something to do with you heart. (i can't remember)

Good sleeping depend also not just in your position but also in the kind of pillows and the foam used in your bed or mattresses. I am comfortable sleeping on my back with a soft pillow on my head and it reach up to my neck and your spine and it is properly align not in contrast to its shape. Then, the foam of your bed must be soft. other prefer to use water bed or air bed. They think they could sleep better in it. But, a regular mattress bed with a good foam may solve your problem. I sleep better with my body forward not in side lying position. I often got a pain wrist or hand as it is lies on the side of my head. Then, when i get tired i roll down in left or right lying position. But, i sleep better with my back body in front lying position or in my right side. It rest my body equally , all of its weight is equal. if you really have a problem with sleeping no matter what you do. You should buy a bed like what is used in orthopedic section. You could align the top of your bed to raise slightly or their is also a bed where the foam is made special that it would not easily lose its shape and durable.
