Long long ago, we had lot of scary movies particularly Exorcist,Omen and Dracula scared lot of movie goers including me. I remember even theatres challenged people to see these movies in night show alone and one who dared to see the movie alone would be offered prizes and gifts. These movies raked lot of money and seen and scared many people all over the world. Nowadays, I think these movies are not around a while I donot know whether they lost their scary charm or people are not interested in them. Though few scary pictures are coming these days but they are not as popular as they were 15 to 20 or 30 years ago. Can you give your opinion on this?

I used to be so scared to even HEAR a scary movie, let alone watch one. I mean I just couldn't even think about watching one. But nowadays I have started watching these older scary movies. I have alot of catching up to do. I can now watch them pretty much with no problem. I do like to watch a comedy or something after watching them though, just to be able to fall asleep at night... One of the new scary type movies that I will not watch is the Hostel movies and the Saw movies. They are just about homicidal crazy people and how to torture people. They are not interesting to me, not about monsters, ghosts, etc. Those are the really scary movies and the most interesting. Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

Thanks for your comment. Yes! as you said scary movies or horror films are much to do with monsters and ghosts. Other type of movies normally go into suspense thriller movies variety. You have solution to forget scary movies by seeing comedy movies. That's interesting to know. Thank you and have a nice day and great my lotting!!!

If there are people out there that like scary movies but don't like movies like The Exorcist or The Omen, then they don't like scary movies!! I am guessing movies like that aren't made anymore because directors and producers think we want digital effects and blood and guts. Yeah, those have their place, but you can't deny the classics! I went to the theater to see the digital remastering of The Exorcist when it came out, and I love the extra scenes and the extra digital effects (like the demon face reflection on the back of the door). I wish they would make movies like that again. Stuff now just isn't that scary. Maybe it's because we're harder to scare now. I don't really know. I just know that the scariest, and therefore IMO, the best movies are The Exorcist and The Omen. There is something about the dark simplicity of it that made it seem so real. That is what scares me the most. Something that is so realistic, it has you believing it could actually happen. Have you ever seen The Prophecy? That is another good one. There is also one called "Audition" that is all in Japanese w/subtitles. It is so subtle and hardly gory at all. It leaves much up to the imagination. I want to go home and watch a scary movie now!

Most of the scary movies that come out these days are violent slasher films! I prefer a good psychological thriller myself! Sometimes I get really in the mood to watch a scary movie! Then I love them! But that doesn't happen that often! Most of the time I'd rather watch something funny or dramatic or romantic. But every so often I'm in the mood to get scared! Last night I felt like I was in a scary movie! I work for a pet sitting agency. The clients contact the agency when they need a pet sitter or dog walker, then the agency matches up the client with a sitter. Well, one of their regular clients needed a sitter at the last minute for a night time dog walk, and the agency couldn't get in touch with his regular sitter so they sent me instead. I talked to the client on the phone and we made arrangements for me to pick up the key to his apartment at the leasing office and he gave me all the instructions on what he needed me to do for his dogs. So it's like 9:00 at night and it's thundering and lightning out... pretty scary weather! And I'm at his building and I have to go down this set of stairs to this very secluded part of the building to get to his apartment. I put the key in the door and open it up, and there's no dogs in the apartment. There was no sign of dogs living there even. No toys, no bowls, no leashes, nothing. In fact, there's no furniture in the apartment. There's a bag of clothes in the middle of the room and a roll of paper towels next to the kitchen sink. In the bedroom there's a mattress on the floor and a computer desk and that's the only furniture in the whole place. I checked the kitchen to see if there was any dog food, and the only thing in the fridge was a bag of carrots! It was really creepy! I started to think that this guy didn't really own dogs and that it was a set up and he was going to murder me now that I was in his apartment! And I started to think that maybe he murdered the other dog sitter and that's why no one could get in touch with her! But then the rational side of me realized that maybe I was in the wrong apartment. So I started searching the place for a piece of mail or something with the guy's name on it so that I'd know I was in the right place. All I found was this sheet of paper next to the computer with a note saying "In case I die" and a list of instructions. That was it! I was so scared! I grabbed my stuff and ran out of that place! I got in my car and called the client. Turns out I was in the wrong apartment! He had moved ahwile back and his regular sitter had his new address, but the agency didn't! And he had moved from one apartment to another within the same complex! So when we spoke on the phone, I verified the apartment complex, but didn't ask to verify his address! But I went to his correct apartment and his dogs were there waiting for me! He was pretty concerned that his key fits another door in his apartment complex though!

That's really scary experience you got. After reading your post it is actually horrific feeling to be out in an empty apartment with thunder and lightning. Kind of bad situation to be there and left alone and seeing this piece of information left near the computer desk. Did you ask this guy who had written this kind of information? If so, please let me know. It will be really interesting to know this. I really thank you for your great response along with your own scary experience. Thanks once again.

No, I have no idea who wrote the note! Whoever lived in that apartment! Luckily he wasn't home when I was there! But I got out of that place pretty quickly!

Hi Envy68 Some of these scary movies oddly enough make me laugh sometimes instead of scaring me specially the Exorcist, The Omen and specially Dracula. Maybe because I don´t believe in Vampires at all. In particular some of the older films I find amusing and also Freddy This That and The Other I say that because I don´t know the real titles in English. All the films are in Spanish here. A couple of Actors out of the Omen made it more realistic but apart from that it was ok not even Hannibal Lechter scares me because Anthony Hopkins is a nice person. Don´t know except one that did make me jump a bit was Jaws where the Girl was in the water at the beginning and the Shark suddenly appears from nowhere. It´s just my sense of humour I guess. When I was small there was a television Series in English that scared me a bit but only a bit. Maybe it´s because I know that they are not real. lovinangelsinstead21.

when i was a kid and in my early adulthood i loved scary movies but not anymore. now there is too much scary real stuff going on in the world so that scary movies are overkill. i also do not see the point in showing a bunch of people getting murdered by some freak. it just has no purpose.

I don't enjoy scaring myself by these movies much. Sometimes I still watch some. I watch movies at night, alone so that might be why I don't have them often. It would be a whole lot different if i watched them at daylight but then it loses its ability to scare the sh*t out of me. I think I should try to watch one with friends at lighten up room at night, then it might be scary enough but not too much. This might be a bit tangled post but hope you can solve my point

Icant say I am sorry scary movies are no longer that popular. I dont like them. I have a hard time watching them without someone getting a littlehurt from all jumping and screaming. I just watch one the ohter dayand eneded up messing up the bed with something i was eating. It is entitled "The Grudge". I am so dying tohave the rest ofmymfamiy watch it soI can see their reaction but the wretched DVD player zunked out. There are somany persons who enjoywatching scary movies these days maybe the writers figure they just cant scare them enough.

I used to, but my husband would get angry with me because I always knew what would happen in the end. I think that nowadays scary movies are way too predictable. So I don't watch them anymore, instead I like the suspense thriller.

dear Friend, I don,t like scary movies much because my children are always with me and if i start watching they also join me although they are scared . They enjoy this type of movies along with fear and if we watch these movies during night it will affect their sleep during night. In scary movies , in order to put more effects they show extreme things and this i doesn,t like.

I love scary movies. I watched The Omen and it was a very good horror movie. And I agree with you, nowadays, not so many horror movie which scary. But some are very good and scary, especially those movies coming from Japan, China, or Thailand. Some of them even adapted into Hollywood style, but I don't like them. It is scarier with the original one, not adaptation. Until now, I think the most and the best scary movie I ever watch is "Shutter", one scary movie coming from Thailand (which also adapted into Hollywood).
