At first I thought of giving up all caffeine but we're tea drinkers :) and I wanted to keep drinking tea but I did decide to give up drinking soda. I have read so many things that say it is bad for you, can cause bad skin, even diabetes. Hopefully I can stick to it.

This is actually the first thing I realize when I went to the U.S., it seems that no one there drinks water anymore. It has always have some flavor, otherwise they don't drink it. Even if you're not really a soda person, you'd be forced to drink soda instead of water. I guess these is why Westerners are a lot bigger and most have diabetes, as compared to Asians (oh I'm not looking for a debate on genes though). I'm not really fond of sodas. It's obvious that is isn't really good for you. It's just sad that the soda phenomenon is starting here in my country as well. People can't eat without a soda or softdrinks. It's not a good thing to start. As for my family, we don't really drink soda nor softdrinks much, but there are occasions when we do. As for me, I don't like them at all. I'd rather have cold water instead. But oh well, regardless the type of lifestyle, I still have diabetes. I guess you can never really deviate from what is genetically your path. Good luck to you quitting on sodas.

My mother got diabetes when she was 14 and live in USSR so it is not really where you are but genetics. I use to not drink soda so much but we moved her when I was 15 and everytime i'm out and thirsty all there is is soda, usually no water or juice...at least not real juice.

I had to give up caffeine because I couldn't sleep at night so I have decaf tea which I think tastes as good and I sometimes have Roobois tea which has no caffeine and helps you sleep as well as being full of antioxidants. I don't think I'll ever give up my caffeine free diet drinks though, even if I should.

I stopped drinking soda a long time ago. I will sometimes still drink soda at picnics or barbecues, but other than that, I don't drink soda at all. I will either drink juice, water, or green tea.

I gave up soda when I was 16 and never went back. I initially did it so I could loose 5 lbs. I lost 10. And kept them off for years. Soda's just nasty and has a bunch of High Fructose Corn Syrup. Diet is the worst and is one of the reasons Americans have such a big problem with Diabetes.
