Should models have the hour-glass shape to succeed?

Its not fair that women who opt for modelling have an hour-glass figure to succeed. There are so many aspiring models who go on a rigorous diet to maintain a figure aptly suited to the tastes of a minority and fall sick and land up in hospitals. Why should women be judged by their figure? After all, isn't modelling about showcasing a produc rather than the person itself? There are many cases of models succumbing because of their strict diet regime and drug use to maintain a figure code. Or let me rephrase this question by asking whether big-sized women can't become model?
