My favorite grandson is going to start playing soccer & i'm so excited about it. I am a firm believer in kids playing sports. I think it can keep them out of alot things they don't need to be into . Both my sons played sportd & i never missed a one of their games. I think this will be so good for ryan. sports teaches them so many thing besides the game. I can't wait for him to get started. I just hope it's where i can go to his games. They live 10 miles away from me & i don't drive much at night but if it's at all possible i will be there w/bells on , rooting for my favorite little boy. Do y'all go to your grandchild's or child's games?

When my girls were doing sports, I was at every game. I think it's very important to support them even if they act like it doesn't matter..it does. I think soccer will be great! He'll have a lot of fun and they are so cute when they are out there playing.

Oh yes! I attended everything. My eldest son was really into tennis and the other boys apart from running etc were into volleyball. I used to go to all their matches and cheer them on. As you said it teaches them to work things out as a team and they learn life skills that will help them in life later. I am all for sports in schools

Nope, no kids, but when I was a kid/teen we were located between a little league field (4 blocks) and a pony league field (3 blocks) and sometimes we go over and just watch the games.

I agree, but for some light summer entertainment - it did in a pinch - and it was a way to get a soda or candy that we didn't have at the house....

I envy you...as I am NOT a grandma, yet...and truly hope I will be when I still have my health, so that I can do the same as you! As it is, I still get to root for my son, at baseball! Once in a while! Dang it! I am a great proponent of sports for children...not the winning, the discipline and comraderie! I think it is so important in developing their social skills! Congratulations, my dear, and I am hoping that they will all be daylight games. Lots of hugs, please take care & Cheers!

Dear Jo...I still quite laugh when you thot I was of the other persuasion...I am an only girl...my dear Dad wanted a boy, and he got me, a daughter....but he still was my best friend, and I grew up being "one heck of a Tomboy!" Riding, roping, barrel racing, fishing, haying hunting....and always into sports, big time! So always played baseball, and coached Minor League, too...that is the reason my son is so into baseball....on this little Island, we had the very 1st diamond on our front lawn...and the kids all got off the bus here to play! I am one of the world's biggest supporters of sports, you don't have to win...just get into the game! You must have my notification turned off...as the reason you didn't hear from me yesterday,....I HAVE A ROTTEN summer cold....in this heat! Our rain DID NOT happen last nite...and now they say, maybe Monday! I'm feeling sorry for myself, dear...fighting this heat...and now a fever with it! Poor, poor me! LOL! Grandmaof2 tells me she has some fresh Chicken soup in the freezer...I think I will head for Alberta (where she lives, now!) And that's a laugh, too...I can't even get a day off work for being sick! Boy, I am on a roll feeling sorry for myself, aren't I? I think my mental health is OK...tho, Jo! LOL! Luv ya & hugs!

I would never turn your noitification off, dear. I did use to wonder when u were talking about doing all the things u do how a woman could be so smart & handy. I am not handy at all. U do work way too hard. I see why u were a tomboy but aren't u thankful that your dad taught u all those things. Mine did not ever have any patience to teach us anything, mother either really. I certainly admire u for what u do. I really wish u didn't work so hard. U just be careful. I use to work like a dog to, had to, had to raise two boys by myself but when it caught up w/me it caught up big time. Have a good day & i hope u feel better. love & hugs.

I hope you enjoy watching your grandson playing soccer as I had watching my older sister playing basketball. I missed some games when she was a sophomore and junior, but I saw every one of her games when she was a senior. She was an exceptional player and the leading scorer in the city averaging 33 points per game.

That's wonderful. Sports are great at helping kids work as teams, they keep them active and healthy, and they get to socialize in an environment that is friendly and adult supervised. I played basketball in elementary school and junior high school. My parents always tried to be at the games. One parent would always try to make it, even if they both couldn't come.

My youngestt graddaughter played hockey last year. She only had two games the rest were practice...so I attended as many as I could. I would sit on the sidelines and she might not see me right away.....but when she would look up into the stands and see me I could see her smile! You will have soooooo much fun! Woo Hoo....you go grandma!

Thats great. Soccer is real fun and keeps children active. My sister who is ten is in it. She has been doing it for two years going on three. My son is turning three this january and they allow children to start at three so I am going to try it out.

You are very good grandma, I believe you grandson must love you very much. I agree with you that let kids to enjoy sport games whatsoever. Sports can help them to be strong, not only their bodies, but also their mind. Of course, if you have chances, and you can, why not to join them, it also help you keep young.

I think sports are a great release for children and agree that they teach kids how to work together. It is good preparation for later in life when they won't have a choice but to work with others. My son is only 2mos old right now, but whatever sport he might decide to get into, you can bet I will be there - and will probably drag his grandparents and aunts and uncles with me, too! When kids do play sports, it's always nice for them to know that there is someone watching and rooting just for them.

Anti..Glad to hear that you are one mum and about to be one grandmum who supports sports. I am actually waiting for my son to grow slightly older in order to participate in soccer too. I do hope that I can attend all his trainings and matches in this rush rush world we live in.

That sounds absolutely awsome. We don't have kids, and my husband's grand kids are not in the area, so we don't get to see them often (unfortunately they're not even in the country), but if they were around, we'd certainly go to events and see them play, and put on whatever shows and events they are involved in.

I don't have any children, but I do have a brother who is 11 years younger than I am & I always went to all of his games, baseball, basketball, football, track, school plays, band concerts, bike racing & now that he's an adult, it is car racing & demolition derbys. He now has a daughter & I go to all her events too. She played soccer last year. She wasn't very good, so we spent at home helping her learn the game. She was much better by the end of the season. One thing that concerns me is your "favorite" grandson. I hope you don't treat him any differently than your other grandchildren. Kids figure these things out & it makes for bad relationships eventually. My mom clearly favors my brother over me. One of the many reason that I chose not to have kids was because I know that they never would have been as good as my brother's daughter & any other children he might have in the future. I didn't want my kids to experience the type of pain that I still live through due to my mom's playing favorites.

I totally agree with you about the word "favourite" When one has kids, grandparents, parents, siblings, and other relatives, there should be no favourites. It's unfair to the rest, and sometimes gives the favoured one an unfair advantage.
