Universal Health Care: Good Idea or Bad Idea?

I've heard a lot of people concerned lately that Obama is trying to get universal health care passed in the US and I wanted to hear other people's opinions. I'm still on the fence about this. I know a lot of people that need medicine but can't get health care. A lot of people in my family have diabetes, which gives them a heck of a time with health insurance companies and causes them a lot of trouble. And I know a lot of people that could really use health insurance that just can't afford it because they have too many other bills and just don't make enough. But, then again, I can see on the negative side of it, too. Like, for example, nothing by our government ever runs really smoothly and there's always problems caused by it. I doubt health care would be any different. If you're having trouble thinking of pros and cons, here's a good site that sums up basically what I was thinking, too: http://www.balancedpolitics.org/universal_health_care.htm So what do you think? Is universal health care in the US a good idea or a bad idea?

well, i am in Canada and the only way i could actually afford to go to the doctors is with that type of health care. sure there are bad points as well as good points but i dont understand how the us can afford to buy health care like they do milk or potatoes. how does one afford to pay $100- per doctors visit?

Well, with our health care it doesn't generally cost $100 per doctor visit. It's a set amount determined by your insurance agency. The one that I was on with my father cost us $25 per doctor visit, but that was through where he worked. Now that we're through the insurance itself and not a business I'm paying $35 per doctor visit to the regular doctor. It gets more expensive with the more things I need done and such, which is what deters me from going to the doctor to begin with because we can't afford it. Like I have this problem with clenching my teeth at night and it makes my jaw ache horribly in the morning, but I can't afford to go to the doctor and get advice for what to do on it...
