Does bias still really exist?

Just recently here on myLot...two discussions were deleted! And sadly enough, I am normally a stand back, take two breaths, and leave person...I was so totally offended at the comments made against Canadians...and it has bothered me for the last 10 days! Do my dearest neighbours to the South of the 49th parallel, really have that much hate and aggression against their neighbours to the North of the 49th? We have the same forefathers! Cajuns are French Canadian dark persons! Our allegiance to the Monarchy, our religious beliefs, our ease with Alternative lifestyles, our political policies...were all nastily chagrined. I, with heavy heart, have NEVER thot of my Southern Friends, as anything other than "one nation under one roof"...the Great North America! Am I overly reacting.....my feelings have been jumped all over! I do not scoop all into one dustpan...we are all Children of God! I do have wonderful sisters & brothers here, from all over the world...and I want to keep them close to my heart! I guess you have to hit me over the head...and say "U.S. is best"......but with the kind of arrogance I have just recently seen....I sure hope these "wildly verbal" name calling personages do NOT become the voice of my Southern neighbours.....and you can tell there is a lot of hurt in this post. 2nd one since Feb. 1st! Had to do it! Please prove this all wrong! Too sick, too much time to think...but a great pain in my heart for days!

I don't know about the particular comments in question. I DO know that the political system of Canada is currently being examined here in the US due to our possible switch to a national health care system. Canada is seen as heading down the path (if not already there) to socialism. Many people are hotly debating this issue and maybe the anger has rubbed off on their attitudes towards Canadians in general. That's not happened with me...
As far as Canadians themselves go, I have never really heard anything derogatory said about them. I think that we consider you to be friendly northern natives. Any stereotypes are generally lovable such as heroic mounties or the comedic Bob and Doug McKenzie or Red Green....
I'm sorry you were insulted here. That is not the typical behaviour of most Americans here on mylot. Please accept my apologies for the rudeness of some. I'm sorry that happened to you.

I hear your frustration and hurt! I only wish I had seen the comments that you are talking about. Again, I am sorry that this has happened here. Just know that most Americans (like myself) have nothing bad to say about Canadians. As far as politics goes, that's a whole other story. It's a topic that causes heated debates ALL around the world, and I'm sorry to say that this will NEVER change. And trust me when I say, that America's political system has been under Far more attacks than your country. We've gotten used to it....

Once again, thanks rocketj1 for being a part of this discussion...and yes, politics will always raise "it's ugly head"...and create many paths of dissention! So, that was NOT where I was going with this complaint! I just never take a verbal swipe at my neighbours to the South...we have rotten apples in our barrels of population! tHE comments were heavily tainted with denigrading overtones, and it just really hurt to see that kind of stuff here on this wonderful forum! There are biased people everywhere my friend but the thing is that just because a few are like that doesn't mean that we all are. I am respectful of people. Not just people in the US or just the people in Canada but all people. No one has more of a right to be here than anyone else and we all have the right to live in peace. I am shamed that people are sometimes the way they are but these are problems that have been going on for a very long time. It's not our problem though pergammano..it's their problem. Get rid of that pain in your heart..you know love and acceptance. They are the ones that should be pained.

Hey, Jen...thank you for the support ... and as usual wise & sage advice! I am such a pacifist that seeing "mudslinging" like that, in two discussions, was truly nasty! Like you, I am aware of good and bad...and my chagrins, I keep to myself, but I do have difficulty in people, tarnishing an entire race, religion, political view with one nasty brush
I will PM you the name of the person...now that I think more about it...I think he/she is a re-invented nasty troll! Take care...Jen...my cold is abating, and it looks like we might get some rain, Monday! Today, the temps are in the 60's...that's more than a 40 degrees drop...so we are all running around in coats and long pants, life winter, now we're all hoping this isn't the end of our summer! The loud and abusive voices are very much the minority. Do not believe that we are all that way. You will find the abusive people everywhere, and that is what those people were, abusive. They give the US a bad name among the nations. Is the US best? Well it is best for me, but not necessarily for everyone, and not in every way.None of us are perfect.

Thank you, sincerely, both of you for your comments! I think the first comment, that was "way out there" was in one of your discussions..GardenGerty....about sending your American dissidents to Canada, where we all speak French, and don't condone alternative life-styles, we have even legalized their marraiges, because we are so stupid...and we support Socialism! The other NASTY comments were on a discussion started by a Canadian friend of ours!
I have lived in this world, long enough, to know there is a few rotten apples in every barrel....I just didn't think they would get loud and abusive on myLot! There are many things, that is best about the US...but I am happy here in Canada, too! Thank you...and Cheers!

some of my friends here come from Canada,I just
really hate these people who make racist remarts
here. they are uncalled for and make us all look
bad. I am sure mylot will delete these,but why
were they ever made in the first place? there is
no place here for racist remarks and I hope they

Once again, thank you for you support here...you've been a real trooper, and I do always respect anything that you have to say! My goodness, look at your Posts, you should be the moderator here! One discussion was about politics in the US, and the dilemna over Barack Obama's birth certificate...and the comment was made, send them all to Canada, where they are socialists, speak french and approve alternative marraiges....and in the other discussion, the same person, used a lot of verbage to describe stupid Canadians....and our ties to the Monarch! Just really nasty abusive comments!

I am truly sorry u ran into this kind of person. she does not speak for me. I think u are the greatest. There will always be people who are biased & racist but i think when they are they are just showing their ignorance.Please don't judge us all by her. she shouldn't be judging anyone in my opinion, she's not smart enough. u just don't let her worry u . She is not worth it. I wished i could have seen the discussion before they deleted it. I would have told her the same thing.

Yes, my dearest...I knew that if you would have seen the discussions...you would have stepped in! The were really wild and nasty comments, as you can I have stated in my reply to GardenGerty! I will PM you and GardenGerty the name of one of the people, just outright rude....and I think may be one of our nasty trolls under a new name! Hi pergammano, hope u r feeling better. Well, this is a news to me. I knew that borders were often closed to prevent Canadian merchandize flooding the U.S. market, but this kind of verbal abuse was not expected at all. People are misled by their leaders into believing that the cause of their misery is not themselves but the person who is doing better financially. The fact that jews fared better than most, financially, is what led to the genocide during Hitler's regime. People tend to feel jealous, especially during financial emergencies such as these. It will pass, dont worry.

I can vouch that bias still exist. I have not followed the two deleted discussions that you are mentiong, so i can t really understand what you are talking about. I teach children coming from the southern part of the island. children are always children but they are a bit rough and not so polished when it comes to manners. I always hear teachers coming from the northern part of the island commenting about this. I guess bias exist everywhere

I can't believe you were able to experience that. I know there's a lot of misunderstandings between mylot users, that's one of the purpose of the site as well, to settle and somewhat debate things. you shouldn't botehr yourself with it since you can't even see the real person in his/her profile. you would only hurt yourself in the process. you should have at least told us these kind of people.

Yes... I concur...but the comments should all be peppered with a lot of respect, and not downright denigrading! If you and I were to have a discussion over a subject that we did not concur on...I would respond to you with respect for your opinion...no matter what! Sorry, dear, but I cannot relate the names of the responders as that is not allowed here! I think the person was just a nasty troll! Once again, thank you for responding....and Cheers!

yes it really exist ..even in the small places or even during contest not only in religion or whatso ever there is always biased...its natural nowadays....i hope that this practice wil be erased from our minds...

I truly think that bias and racism are sad, sad malaises...and what happens to a person in life to make them this miserable is just as sad! I think that they must live a very unhappy life!
