Does anyone else think that Hannah Montana, The Jonas Brothers, etc, should just

kinda drop off the face of the earth? Nothing against them as people (though I probably wouldn't like them if I knew them - I still can't judge that without actually knowing them) but they are what is wrong with today's youth. Well, part of it, but really, I just detest them for their music. What happened to making good music? I'm tired of all these Disney Princesses ruining the minds of the young people with what should be called garbage and not music. Anyone else feel the same way? Support my opinion? Or maybe you disagree. I don't know. I'm sure some of you do. Tell me why then.

As a matter of fact, I do. Ever listened to Johnny Cash, The Beatles, Elvis, The Ramones, The Clash, Social Distortion? The Doors, Billy Joel, Chuck Berry, Queen, Kris Kristofferson, Tom Waits? Or let's go even farther back. Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Chopin? Listen to that and then tell me that anything dear Miley Cyrus has ever produced qualifies as art in anyway. And how does calling what I view as garbage make me garbage? Ever hear of the saying one man's trash is another man's treasure? I understand that people like that kind of music. I'm not saying you can't. I just think it's trash.

Do you honestly know anything about music? Name one fact about any of the bands or composers I listed above. And stop swearing at me. Is that really necessary? We're having a discussion, not acting like idiot adolescents. I don't pretend I have taste - I know I do. In fact my tastes are ridiculously broad. I like bands from every genre, every generation. And I can spell and type, if we're going to be petty about it.

I am not a fan of today's music. Even back as a teenager in the 70s I did not like what the mainstream was setting as "Number ONE!" (remember Elton John's "Daniel?" ugh. and AeroSmith was definitely worse ...) So I was a classical geek, though I kind of like the folk genre as well. Yes was around too, but I wouldn't know about them until later. No, if people are going to pay for trash, trash is what the market is going to give them. We still have Jazz, Soft Rock, Rhythm & Blues, all these other types; no one is being forced to listen to anything (unless you have kids. ugh.)

No, I don't remember, unfortunately. I am only eighteen, so I haven't experienced what the mainstream used to be. All I know is that today's mainstream is especially terrible. From the nineties up, after grunge essentially killed anything good that was mainstream, it sets a standard of mediocrity for itself. You are right. People have the choice to listen to whatever they so choose to and purchase whatever they so choose to, but it just disappointments that there are so many people who choose to remain ignorant of the broad spectrum of music and just take whatever the media spoonfeeds to them as to be 'good'. Thanks for your comment.

I see what you're saying but you gotta think before all those disney b!tches excuse my french.. there was young britney spears, young christina aguilera, Nsync, backstreet boys, and a few others which I can't think of at the moment. Now the ones I listed compared to Hannah montana were a hell of alot better. But Honestly I totally agree with you, they should go away and stop making these young teenagers minds all wacked out over poorly written music, and high pitched singing. If I remeber correctly Miley Cyrus has a song out called the climb. This little girl has no idea what it means to over come love...but she's giving it the *highschool* teen ideal for her age.. eh, whatever.

Exactly what I'm saying. I'm glad someone else sees it that way. Of course, there is always going to be those musicians who bring a bad name to the rest of the musical industry, but it seems to be especially bad lately.

im definetely not a fan of thier music but the worst thing is that they get most of this handed to them on a plate, whereas decent musicians have to desperately work to get even slightly noticed

Another valid point that I don't think was brought up, and it is so true. I know so many people with more musical talent than these terrible mainstream artists. Granted, not all mainstream musicians lack musical ability, but it seems to me that these Disney 'princesses' just take the cake for bad music.
