I don't love my job so much, but I can't give up coz I need the salary to live. If I work here, I have to be busy for nothing. I worked this weekend on both Saturday and Sunday, but there is no overtime rates. I have no chance to use English in daily work and they give me no chance to learn about project, but when there is a meeting I have to work as an interpreter about the project that I am not familiar with as all! Of course I will make mistake before the foreigners. Why?!!Give me the chance to learn!I just do the sundries everyday, nobody remember me, when they need me,they ask me to lose my face!

If they don't give you a change to learn with your co worker. Yes its true that you will commit mistaked becoz you didn't understand the what was the project all about. But why don't you do some self study about your work.. By reading the documents that they gave you for filling. Maybe in future you will to enjoy your job and makes you easy to relay on them.....

Yes I do want to learn in the documents. But I have to ask a lot of questions when I read a paragraph and I can even not understand them without practices. In the future I will forget more English and be more ignorant. I'm not sure if I will love my job if things go on like this.

Don't stop studying English. Always read English books and magazines. For those things that you cannot understand write them in you notebook and look the meaning in the dictionary. And try to practice reading aloud in front of the mirror so you would not forget the English word and pronounsation. Have patience in studying English and find first an alternative job before you resign with your prestnt job.

I agree with The Gladys. Try to learn English on your own. You may be able to find som*e tapes to listen to in the car on your way to work that will help you, or a book or tutorial on learning english that you can buy. If you study really hard in your spare time, you may learn much faster. Also, keep posting on mylot, because here you can practice your English anytime with many who are native speakers or know the language very well. Good luck. You seem to have a good grasp of the language already. Just brush up a little and keep practicing here and you'll do great!

It is hard to translate your language to English sometimes because there's no translation for it. Sometimes if you translate it in direct translation would not work because you don't get what the real meaning. Sometimes if we do our jobs in repetition we get bored and lost our interest to function very well in a certain job. At least you tried, experienced and patience to improve your English to do your job better.

This is really bad especially when you get a chance to show others what you can do and then this situation crop up, they have to understand that you need a training first of all to be able to be brilliant in this field, I also don't love my job but I have to work for the salary so now I am searching for another job while staying in the present one. Tell them that you need a training first to be able to communicate intelligently.

What you stated in the last line is the key to your problem "..nobody remembers me.." that is because you don't project yourself and you let the others think that you have no confidence in yourself. I think you have to take life in to your own hands and show your bosses what you can do. How about your colleagues? Do you have any good friends in your work place? If so, you can ask them for help. Surely there must be others who know about the project. You can ask them to help you; find out from them what it is all about. There must be reports, documents and letters etc. written about the project which you can study by yourself to get an idea as to what its all about. Take down notes or summarize it in point form. Jot down the key details and now that you have been to a meeting or two, you will know what they talk about. I'm sure it's alright to refer to your notes and talk in a bright and confident manner. Don't act frightened and shy. Look bright and pleasant and attentive. Even if you find it boring, don't show it.Believe me, Very soon they'll start noticing you and even if you are not 100% accurate at the beginning, a time will come when they can't do without your services. I know you can do it. So go for it girl, don't give up and let us know what happens. Good luck!

Your situation seems to resemble those that most people experience. Especially those who want to strive more to improve. I believe that if you really want to get to practice your english as often as you can, you should find means to do so. At least get to practice is a short while every day so that the retention would still be continuous. At work, I tend to use english often but, I still want to improve my level since I mostly get to talk to students about terms that they know, not the ones that I do know and want to use as often, get familiar and have no hesitation on using. Aside from work, I try to improve my english by speaking with online friends online. I recently got acquainted with an online friend who is a native speaker of english but, admits that she sometimes make mistakes. I try as much as I can so that retention remains. I don't get to use english with colleagues as much since they prefer to communicate with the language that they our comfortable with. I don't blame them though. It is easier to express your ideas in your own language after all. I use to talk english so much with a classmate of mine during elementary. It wasn't because we wanted to show off but, there was this sense of recognition that we want to compete against each other but in a friendly way. Well, before I stray off any further, I wish you get the chance to practice your english more. Why not voice your concern so that they would do something about it since they are all benefiting from your efforts and you end up losing face whenever you couldn't catch up with the terms being used.

hello Butterfly007, I think you should keep your work/job even you are not enjoying at all. You'll get to use in no time and somehow they will value your work and effort. Maybe not now but soon. You're lucky for you have a job and that you have a monthly income. Others are looking for a job but there is no vacancy. Maybe you can resign if you already found a new job, a job that you really like and enjoy.

butterfly hi I feel for you, sometimes we get stuck in a job we really hate because we have to work to live. I was in the same position once when I was just twenty;I worked in a place called the Nancy Ann Doll factory gluing on wigs on six inch dolls. I hated this,my fingers were always full of glue, and if You didnt get the wig just so, they would reject it and you wou ldnt get paid for that one. I was so glad when I could quit and take a job I liked working as a nurses aid which I loved. I hope your job will get better or else you get a job that you like good luck God bless.

hey girl, I'm a Chinese too, and working in an IT corporation, I think you should go to talk with the project leader/manager to ask for more involvement opportunities. There are a lot of lean chances, but you need to catch it, but not wait always, good luck.

It is quite a confusing period. I thought the situation you are in now is really similar as mine. I am also quite free, have nothing to do. I plan to quit my job now. Everyday, I am seeking for job opportunities on line. Any part-time job or good full-time job are all my choice. Really, I can understand.

Hi,one thing i want to tell you is that why don't you ask your manager or boss in advance what topic will be discussing on the meeting? In that case,at lease you will have time to get prepared.Even though you did you get familiar with the project, you can ask others who knows it well, then you can make much less mistakes, and boss may know that at least you have done your best on that? How do you think of my advice??
