I often asked my frind, about speed of the computer. Such as this, "How quickly a computer with 2.4 Mhz clock speed ?". How should I explain ?

2.4 Mhz means it can process 2.4 million instruction at a time. however it is not the case because processing instruction depends lot on other pheripherial also. like memory video card etc. if memory is low and/or memory speed is less then processing time decreasses. it applys to other perepherial also. so overall speed of pc depends on its entire architecture.

I totally agree with you. There are bench marks for various computer operations like calculation intensive graphics as in games, compression/decompression file operation and others but still it depend on combination of system components(processor/memory/storage disc). So how would you explain speed in simple terms? Then simply tell them higher Mhz can process more computer operation than a lower Mhz at the same amount of time.

the clock in aprocessor will give an idea about how efficent or speed it would eb your computer as well!! So as you noticed the clock unit is in mhz...so the same unit for frquency..consequently give you how much power or better how much frquency your processor will calculates dates!! 2.4 is ok for a laptop but considering that now there are processor about 2.8 or even 3.00 mhz with overclocking...they will be more efficent!!

Computer's processor is calculated in hertz. 2.4 mhz or mega hertz would mean that chip has the ability to execute 2.4 million commands per second.1 ghz means 1 billion calculaions per second. And yeah, where did you get 2.4 mhz processor in 2009

You should explain that the clock speed determines how fast and efficient is. However, you might want to explain to him what cores are. Nowadays, processors have multiple cores. Tell him that multiple cores make it possible to perform several tasks at the same time.

i hav a core 2 quad processor q6600 running at 3.2ghz (oc)oc means water cooled at factory settings the clock speed is set to 2.4ghz i overclocked it to 3.2 ghz which makes it a lot faster as it got 4 core running at same time. i had a pentium 4 processor running at 3.2ghz as well but it only had one core running and was a lot slower and this is big time improvement over that. i love faster processing i don't like sittin and waitin for tyhe page to load up. with the core 2 quad my processing power has been superb.
