The book is the Uglies.
It is about a society where all girls have to have plastic surgery at a certain age to make them pretty. It is a teen series but Harry Potter was a kids series.
My DIL recommended it to me sometime ago and I just got around to looking for it and found this free link. I figure if I don't like it nothing is lost.

I enjoy reading,whether paper or ebook,and freebies are always nice to get! A site I recently discovered that offers free ebooks,Baen books,had an editorial on the subject of free books and the copyright issues being faced by ebook publishers-the consensus seemed to be,a free book or free samples of a book can only raise the profile and thus increase the circulation of an author's material,creating more interest so that people will actively search out books by an Author they've enjoyed and then buy them..happy reading!
