I heard and read many complaints about movies not being as good as the book. So I searched for movies which were as good as the book or even better. I found a good web page. Here is the link http://www.themovieblog.com/2008/11/the-movie-blogs-top-100-movies-based-on-books
I was surprised to know that 'Rambo - First Blood' and Die Hard was based on books.
I did not start this discussion to get lot of comments. However if you comment this discussion will stay alive and many other people will read this discussion. You could tell about your favourite movie based on a book. Hope you find it useful.

Hi Vanillarey, great website there. Though I think I only read a few of the books that listed there, but all of them are great movies. I agree TLOTR are great movies, though some of my friends complains that many of the storyline in the book is alternated on the movies. I think generally if you want to make a movie based on books, leave it to Steven Spielberg and Clint Eastwood, there are a lot of their movies on the list

I used to consider myself a movie lover, but when I saw your blog, I realized that I have been watching all medium quality movies all these years, the actual movies are listed out in your website, they are awesome, I read the details of few movies and I liked each of them, but you will be surprised to know that I haven't watched any of them except of course the world famous ones like, harry potter, twilight or lord of the rings. I have even watched DIE hard series, I loved Bruce Willis.
I hope I will get to watch NOTEBOOK, GIRL INTERRUPTED etc.

You are welcome sophisticated_boy You could try watching the movie first, after that read the book. I liked Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino. Its not based on a book but the movie is good and has a good ending. Not the kind you expect when Clint Eastwood is the hero. However most of the movies he directed are long. Sometimes I feel like fast forwarding.

Hey pupupd, its not my blog. I just found the it on the internet. I thought I would share it here at mylot.
You could watch 'FORREST GUMP' first. Its a great movie and amazing acting from almost all characters. And 'Die Hard' is pretty good. 'Notebook' is an adults movie. There are many Hindi movies like 'Notebook'. I have not seen 'GIRL INTERRUPTED'.
There was a show on History channel which showed that most of the events told in the book and the movie 'The Untouchables' were not true.

I have to say that there have been very few movies which are better than the books. Looking down the list on the film site, The Lord of the Rings films are good films but the books are better, the same with Last of the Mohicans and Hunt for Red October. Indeed all of the Tom Clancy films are poor imitations of the original books.
I can only think of one film at the moment which was better than the book, which was the Last Legion by Valerio Massimo Manfredi, found teh book incrediably disjointed whilst the film was free flowing.

Now a days they are making romance novels into movies..I have seen a few but always go for the books cause it gives me free rein on my imagination while reading them.. I love the Harry Potter Books and love the movies as well but there are some of the movies that doesn't do the book justice..I know it is hard to stuff all the stuff in a movie and keep it within budget and a time frame..but still wish they didn't have to leave so much out.

I am a Jane Austin and Agatha Christie fan, and even then the movies is not as good as the books. I will have to check it out. I have seen the Godfather movies, and Schindler's list. I did read that book. The others on the list, I saw the movie but did not read the book, It would be interesting to find out howe much was left out of the book when they made the movie because of budget and time constraints and how much the movie was just as goof as the book.

Hello my friend VANILLAREY Ji,
Congretulations for joining you as elite club member , where you can mke 'cut & paste'. For me Movies are meant as a part of my recreation, I just forget them after watching them. Why to make research work on them. What is the good use to waste taht much time. I would not like to spare that much time on this. Movies work is over, no sooner I am refreshed from tension, for which I thought of seeing a Movie. May God bless you and have a great time.

This is interesting. I haven't read these books yet. I looked at the link and I have watched some movies, but there are still many movies that I haven't watched yet. It seems to be a good list and I shall watch it step by step.
I love China

Well, yeah I have to agree with them that most of the time books are better than it's movie. Just like the Harry Potter, many important details aren't mentioned in the movie.
I very much appreciate this discussion and thanks for the link,I'll make sure I get to visit that. I'm also surprised that those moives are bases from the books,I really haven't got any idea. I thought it was just another action movie or something.:)

Yes. There are many books made into a movie after the changes there. Perhaps those who feel that the changes will look into the effect will be even better. However, there are also some of my friends. After reading their books. Adapted to take a look at the films, would feel strange. Feel uncomfortable, can not accept it. I have read a book "Sherlock Holmes", when film is divided into many small stories. There is some conten changes. But I think that would be better to see made into a movie. More attractive.
