I am really interested in starting a blog, it would be nice to make a little money from it but I'm not looking to make a large income or get rich quick; although if its possible I'm not going to turn it down. I think it would be really fun and since its something I've never done before I'm even more interested in it. But the thing is I don't even know where to start. I have noticed a lot of blogging site but also alot of people are just starting their own page with a blog. Not sure which is the bast way to go. I could really use some good advice. Like I said I want to do this mostly for fun but also to generate a little income and maybe as a way to advertise and gain a few referrals along the way. I have a lot of ideas of things I would like to write about which I feel is a good place to start would hate to start a blog and then run out of things to put on it. How do you get more people to view your blog? Wondering what sites others use to blog on or how you go about starting your own blog site? Thanks for all the help!

Hi, When it comes to blogging, if you already have some ideas one of the first things you need to do is to decide where to host it. For me personally wordpress is by far the best way to go - either via getting your own domain and hosting or setting it up on one of the many free hosting sites that is wordpress ready (freehostia.com for example) Wordpress is best in the long run, particularly when it comes to earning from it and getting it visible in the search engines etc. If you're interested in my profile there's a link to a blog I started recently that shows you how to set up and earn from a blog - get traffic, optimise it for the search engines etc (with a whole lot more to come) Remember too that you don't have to limit yourself to one blog - in fact if you want to start earning from them in the future I'd suggest setting up a blog for each of your ideas - that is one for cats and one for dogs etc - that way each blog has its own focus which is a lot better income wise and in fact for the search engines as well.

That is a very good idea about setting up a blog for each idea, may take a little more work but would be easier to keep up with in the long run. Thanks I wouldn't have thought of that.

It looks like you've gotten some really sound advice here. Just to add my 2 cents, here is a site that has some really good free information on setting up a blog and making money from it. http://linkbee.com/becomeablogger I'm in the same boat as you kind of. I have had a game blog on blogger for quite some time now, but I'm experimenting with ways to monetize it. Most people say if you want to self host with your own domain name you should use Wordpress. I don't know if it's true, but I've also heard you can self host with Blogger. I don't know; I haven't gotten that far yet. I hope that was helpful xoxo Cyne

Hi sensualsoul, You definitely wont regret blogging. There is a whole new world out there thru blogging. I started out with blogger.com too but I regretted one thing. You see, once you've established yourself and have a fair share of audience, you might want to switch from blogger to your own domain. By then, you will have to request your followers to relink or refollow you. Some of them might just be too lazy to do that and you'll lose them. And then, you'll have to start all over again on ranking and linking wise. And have to work your way up again. So, if you think you have a really great idea for a blog and have a little bit of money to spare, go for your own domain and hosting. At least, you wont have the headache of migrating in the future and your followers wont lose track of you. I have two blogs, a personal blog and a craft blog. My personal blog's still under blogger but I have recently migrated my craft blog to a Dot Com. I spent tremendously a lot of time getting people to relink and refollow me... So try to get your own domain.. it usually cost around USD10 per year. Good luck. http://www.crafty-crafted.com

For a beginner, you can try to make a free blogger account. A lot of bloggers are using that. Another cheap option is to buy your own domain and host it on blogger. In order for more people to view your blog, you hav to join blog networking sites such as Blogcatalog, Stumbleupon, Entrecard etc. Also, having the right keywords in your blog will make it search engine-friendly. Cheers!
