I don't know why but when I wake up in the morning and it's dark in the winter I feel a little upset and quite depressed. It doesn't happen in the summer, is this normal?

I also get the blues in winter time, it is depressing, usually so gloomy and cold and all the flowers die, the trees lose their leaves, summertime and even springtime are just happier seasons. Just remember the winter is just the end for a new beginning, the next spring. Hang in there....watch some funny movies, read a good book, drink some hot cocoa, laugh and smile, and you will be feeling better soon.

Yes, Everyone has a little bit of this. Lack of sunlight decreases seritonin levels, and vitamin D.... And this is what causes the depression.. as Sunlight increase vitamin D and the bodies natural seritonin levels. Take care, - DNatureofDTrain

Very normal. The sunlight in the summer releases hormones that make you happy and in the winter when the sun isn't out as much you don't get that effect. That is why they say when you are depressed to go take a walk in the sun because while it won't cure your depression it will relieve a little of the sadness.
