Very confused -please help old timers

I have looked at the Mylot guidlines and they don't specify. I used the search box and searched past discussions to try and get the answer but there seems a contradiction. I want to know if one wants to talk about a piece of news, in order to state the facts properly, can one paste PART of the original news article? Like for eg. if I want to relay what a person SAID, can I copy the speech from the original news article as long as I give the original link, is this allowed? 1. Some mylotters say PART copying of the article is ok (as long as the link is given. 2. And some say no copying at all is allowed? Please can someone tell me which one is correct? Angelie

Hi sritrinity, It is okey to copy and paste part of the articles if you provided the link. That why they give a copy and paste feature for those who have reach 500th post. Otherwise, there is no point to have that feature. But if you can use your own words to relate that articles is much better. Just put the link so others can refer it. Happy mylotting and have a nice day.

Please read above. If many more users did as told and stopped trying to make the Guidelines say what they want them to say....

Is there such a thing as a non copyright article? If I write something it is mine. If you copy it and call it yours by not placing a link to it then that is plagiarism, an offence.

How about non copyright articles? Since the guidelines only mention about the copyright one. Or all the articles has copyright? I don't really this copyright thing. Care to explain?

What others say is neither here not there. It is what we are told in the Guidelines that counts. It states: 'Don't Post copyrighted articles or photos please link to them. DON’T post copyrighted photos at all.' http://www.mylot.com/o/guidelines.aspx It says that in the 'don'ts' at the sixth button from the top.

Weare talking about discussions here Mike so I refer to the Guidelines as they are more simplified. They say the same thing - DON'T copy articles and paste them here!

I think the second part is about photo. Not articles. Am I right?

Hi Mysdianait, "DON"T post copyright copyrighted articles or photo's please link to them.Don't post copyrighted photo's at all". This is where I am getting confused, in the first sentence it seems that it's ok to paste copyright articles and photos as long as you link them But, then in the second sentence it says don't do it all? I don't get it? Sorry, please explain. and what if the its PART an article and you link it....is pasting part an article ok?

Hi Dear! I think you being new, therefore, you could certainly raise this issue. However, no copying of any news item is allowed, as per the guidelines.I've seen some users posting discussions, based on news items, but they do mention the sources and links, otherwise, there are chances that discussion might be deleted due to violation of rules. I would advice you to be original and use your own draft to discuss any news item and you may give the link alongwith your post. All the best to you.

It's what the cut-and-paste function is all about. As long as sources are well identified, there's no problem at all.

I think it's after you reach 500 posts you can copy and paste, you can use links as long as it's not for personnel gain! If I'm wrong Mysd, will be here shortly to correct me! tdemex

Mike! You cannot use just any old link. If it points to anything which will earn for you or someone else it is not allowed. Links to articles on sites which earn by views are NOT allowed for example just as those to personal blogs are not either.

It's a good you have opened it up for every one. well, what I've told you last night was true. just to play it safe just don't copy at least part of that discussion in the site that you were discussing. links are ok as long as you have type your own words. i don't know about my friend friend and mysdianait who seems to be confused too. but for me that's what i stand and don't copy their photos too from that site..last night what you did was word for word with out the links at all..so, be careful with that..

LetranKnight i feel you are mistaken that my posts were WORD for WORD. I have typed in the links below each of three discussions now, please go and check. Please show me how they are word for word. Some descriptive Key words and some speech has been copied, but I don't agree that the ENTIRE post is word for word as I made it a point to mix things up and only take main points out of the original fuller articles. I have checked many times now and am truly confused and also hurt.
