I know some people that want to quit smoking but are worried about things they've heard. I know it's silly to worry about such small things such as gaining some weight when you'r getting rid of a habit that is much worse for you'r health. It got me wondering about wives tales and superstitions that people believe. I want to know how many wives tales do you know, and what ones have you found to be true? Are there any superstions that you be believe in? I remember when I was younger my aunt always told me not to leave the fan blowing on me while I went to bed because I would get pneumonia, but I've done this for so long and it's never made me sick. Though I still believe not to go out in the cold while your hair is wet, my friends assure me that this is not trua and is an old wives tale. So now I want to know what everyone else thinks, what wives tale/superstions do you know and what ones do you believe are true or have some truth to them? I look forward to hearing what everyone has to say. :)

Well I don't think the gaining weight when quitting smoking is actually a wives tale, many people actually do gain weight when they quit smoking, not because of anything to do with the cigerettes themselves but because they are used to the hand to mouth motion and some of them substitute food for the cigerretes. My brain is too tired right now and I actually can't think of any wives talea right now. Several suerstitions come to mind but now wives tales, maybe the one about if you keep crossing your eyes like that they will stay that way.

Thanks for your comment! Yes I believe alot of people substitute food for smoking when they are quiting and in this case do gain some weight. It's wrong though when people think it's just that smoking is keeping your weight thinner and if you quit you'll instantly start gaining weight. I remember that one about crossing your eyes, also "If you keep making that face it's get stuck like that" Lol. Have a great day :)

In fact it's true, studies showed that 90% of people that quit smoking did gain weight. You need to realize that food taste better after quiting so many people start eating alot of food.

I wasn't really aware that smokers lost their taste. I wonder if the creators of Ben and Jerry ice cream were smokers. I read a story some place that said they couldn't taste their ice cream and that's the reason they added so much extra to it. If they can enjoy food more it's not wonder they put on some weight. They've missed out so long on really tasting their food.

The one that I liked was when your washing dishes and you get your belly wet with the dish water you will marry a drunk. That was my favorite one that even my mom use to say.

I have heard a lot of them but I've never heard that one! I know I don't like getting wet while doing dishes so I put a small towel across the front of sink just in case. Thanks so much for sharing! :)
