Is our judicial system foolproof?

When I read about Abdel Basset al-Megrahi's release on passionate grounds this morning, I was livid. The aticle went on to say that he was just a scrapegoat and that the real perpetuators were walking freely. If that was the case, why was the world kept in the dark all these years?
