So friends, what is hugging mean to you or your culture? I know mylot members are from different part of the world and having various cultures. Hugging can means differently to each individual country, will you allow to do it openly in public or can only do it in private because it is illegal, or you can hug every one regardless of gender. Please share with us some of the experiences in you so we can learn about your view in this topic.

Hello, Sey i am alright, thank for asking. Hope you too!!! So you only give hug for someone who is special to you, and also majority of people in your country too , then hugging is not a common way of greeting between friends (normal or special.) in your country, i am learning something new from you today. Thank for the head up , my friend.

Hi, my friend, there are people who don't give hug at all, it is not part of their culture. I think giving hug is mainly practice by western countries population. In some middle eastern culture, hugging and kissing on the cheek between men is common but not between man n woman. I don't think you are boring, i think it is because it is not part of your culture. Thank for your response. Happy mylotting!

it is part of our culture like i said my wife gives hugs and kiss the cheeks of relatives and friends she sees. its like a gesture that means she is happy to see them and she missed them so much. but its me that does not give hugs. i have a few relatives who lives in the UK and they came here last year for a reunion and everyone is giving kisses and hugs and i was giving smiles. so i think i am a boring person. har har har

In that case, you are really boring, can only stand there and smile, they must be wondering why you want to do that, too stingy to give them a hug?? ... . haha.....

For me a hug can mean different things. I love to give hugs to my friend male or female, but I hug them differently than I would hug my boyfriend. A hug for him is more passionate if there is such a thing. I don't know how to describe it, but a hug with him is different than a hug to my "just friends" guy friends.

Hi girl! I assume you mean a tighter hug for your boy friend and longer time, i can understand that. If he is just a friend, normally you just give a brief hug in the shortest time possible. lol! Thank for your response.

Their are different kinds of hugs that have different meanings to me. I will usually hug a friend or family member as a greeting. I will hug my husband or children, or parent, out of love. You can also use a hug when someone is feeling down to help them feel better.

That is correct, dlr297. For some culture , it means certain thing. But for some people, it can mean different depend on who is the receiver. We can learn a bit here from this discussion. Thank for your response!

Hi,amy! It is not a common scene, may be they are shy and do it only out of public sight, it is more a culture type of thing. Hugging can mean differently to the giver and also to the standby , sometime to certain government too. lol!! Thank for your response. Happymylotting !

I hug family members and friends. But some people are uncomfortable about hugging. I guess some people don't like others stepping inside their"space". It makes them uncomfortable. I read somewhere that you should get 8 hugs a day to maintain positive mental health. However that may depend on different cultures and how hugging is perceived.

Hi oztoo3! Yes, it is difficult for me to give hug to anyone, especially a stranger or newly make friend. Sometime i think it is mainly due to personal hygiene reason, you never know whether that person has any infection or care to clean himself daily. I usually give that to person i known reasonable well so i don't give a wrong perception with my action, like you say, it can have different meaning to the one who is receiving it. Thank for your response. Happy Mylotting!

Hi lampar, this is more of a kissing culture over here, we greet a friend with a kiss on each cheek on occassions like meals out together, or when we haven't seen a particular friend for a while, or in some instances on each occassion we meet which could be almost every day. It is a common sight to see two men greet with kisses as they meet up for a meal together, but then will just pass on the street together the next day with a nod, as that isn't a special occassion. There are some men who would never follow this practice but are in the minority. Hugging is reserved for close friends. For instance if I go to the school I will be kissed by the teachers but not hugged, but at some cafenions I will be both kissed and hugged by the owners. One is never quite sure of the greeting one will receive, kiss, hug or handshake, so I usually follow whatever lead is set by the other person.

Hi, thea09 ! So hugging is only practiced between two close friend in Greece. We learn some thing new today. For me, i usually give a handshake for friends or newly know people. Hugging is usually mean giving comfort or encouragement on my part, sometimes i give a hug to a long time friend too after missing for a while. Thank for the response; happy mylotting to you.
