I think for the most part they are trying to be helpful by improving things. Some things have proved to be a 'double-edged sword' though. Like atomic power for instance. Atomic power now powers many power plants providing energy for millions of people, the other edge of the sword is that it also can be used as a destructive bomb. Then there's the fact that they have the energy in use, but the rods hold their radioactivity for so many years and they didn't plan ahead about what to do with them when they couldn't be used in the reactors anymore. Also, scientists are finding out more about new treatments, medicines, and the human body. Many people will benefit from the advances in the world of medicine. Even space travel has brought us many products that would not have ever been discovered, or even thought about, had the space programs not come to be. I do think that most scientists are trying to make life better and easier for mankind. The common man is every bit as destructive in causing problems in our world. Man, not science, is responsible for the polluting of our rivers, streams and oceans. Thankfully, science is trying to correct things like this.
