Here in the states if you are married, you wear your wedding band on your left rig finger , but I have seen that in some European countries it is wore on the right hand.My American orchestra teacher wore his wedding band on his right hand so he could play the cello. So which hand do you wear your wedding ring?

The tradition of the wedding ring goes all the way back to ancient Egypt, where the circular shape was the symbol of eternity. Even then it was worn on the third finger of the left hand because it was believed the vein in that finger led directly to the heart. This belief was passed on to the Greeks and then to the Romans, who called it "vena amoris," Latin for "vein of love." During the Middle Ages, Christian grooms placed the ring on the index finger of the left hand, then moved it to the middle, and finally the ring finger. This ritual honored the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, Holy Spirit). Traditionally, Jewish grooms place the ring on the bride's left index finger, but today the ring is usually transferred to the ring finger after the ceremony. In many parts of northern and eastern Europe, the wedding ring is worn on the right hand. In Germany and Holland, the engagement ring is worn on the left hand and the wedding ring on the right. Since I'm allergic to any type of metal, I don't wear a wedding band or any other rings.

WHen I was married I wore it on my left....after my divorce I had the rings melted down and the diamond reset into a ring of my choosing....it's a beautiful rose..I still wear it on my left hand....on my ringfinger.....but if I ever do find love again and I am given a ring I'll take it off and give it to my daughter...

Hubby and I wear our wedding bands on our left hand ring finger. i wore my engagement ring on that finger and the wedding band on my middle finger for a while, because for what ever reason the wedding band was too big for my ring finger, and I did not want to re-size it since it belonged to my grandmother, but somehow it got too small for that fonger, and I was able to put it on my ring finger. Now I wear both rings on that finger.

I´m lefthanded, so I wear my wedding ring (and any ring) on my right hand. I feel I need my left hand as free as posible. I know that in my country there´s a costum but I don´t know what it is. And now, young people live togueter and almost never use wedding rings as when I got married. Take care

If I were to marry , I would wear my ring on the right hand just like yu and my teacher. I am lefthanded too plu I play guitar and violin and I need my fingers free of rings onmy lefthand. When I was younger , I wore rings on all four of my right hand, Now I only wear one on my middle finger. ps. Here in the states we have lefthanders day. It is August 13th. Next year try to do something special, it's our day.

Well, here in the US most people wear it on the left hand. That's were I wear mine. The funny thing about it, when my husband and I were saying our vows, and he placed the ring on my finger, we were both so nervous, that we placed the rings on the wrong hand. . I'm glad to have know something new today though, I thought it was all over that people wear their rings on the left hand. Its interesting to know that in other countries they wear it on the right hand. So in some countries, when we messed up on our wedding day, we would have gotten it right.

I live in the U.S. also. I wear my ring on my left hand ring finger, but I have a friend that wears hers on her right hand ring finger. She says it's uncomfortable for her on the left hand because she broke her finger years back & it just dosn't feel right.

In Canada, we too wear our wedding rings on our left hand. Generally speaking anyway. It probably varies from religion to religion, but many people that I've seen wear their wedding bands on their left hand.

I read somewhere, probably a trivia book or something, that the reason for wearing a wedding band/ring on the left is because it's closer to your heart that way. My sorority has a tradition of tying a ribbon around a person's left index finger because the vein in that finger runs directly to the heart without branching off or going anywhere else in the body.... I don't know enough about anatomy to verify that statement but maybe the vein in the ring finger runs straight to the heart too.
