If Health Care is Free - Get Rid of Medical Insurance Companies

If we continue down the path of 'Free health care for everyone,' why do we need health insurance companies? Pay each doctor a flat fee for his service, depending upon his specialty, and the government pay that amount. Why bother making a payment to the insurance company? Just think of all the paper that could be saved. The Environmentalists would be happy too, right? The only downfall would be the jobs that would be lost, but Hey! The lost jobs could be moved over to the health care ind After all, the very reason insurance companies exist is to accept the risk. If there is no risk because it's free, then why bother? Of course, this is all in jest, but it makes one wonder, doesn't it? If it will all be free to all citizens, why bother with all the paperwork?

NOTHING is free. We will ALL pay for this "free" system whether we use it or not. We'll all pay for it by having a flat income tax rate of anywhere from 40% to 60% of our income. That means you'll work 40 hours a week and get paid for 20 all so we can have "free" health care. I personally think he should fix what's wrong now before killing us all with an extremely high tax rate that none of us can afford.

Quiplet, First,I see by you number you are relatively new so welcome! Lets examine what your idea would entail: If we do in fact disband all health insurance companies, how many jobs do you believe that will cost? Health insurance and all of its support industries make up more employess and workers than General Motors ever hoped to have and if GM was "too big to fail" then wouldn health insurers fall under the same category? Wouldn't it make more sense to get rid of the countless restrictions and controls the government already has on health insurance companies and promote good healthy competition nationwide? This would bring costs under total control dramatically and most if not all people would be able to afford insurance in some form or another.
