Well I watched the new Show on the CW last night and I must say that I am very disappointed :( I have read all the books and the Show just does not do them justice at all..for one thing the main girl Ellena is supposed to be blond and her friend bonnie is supposed to have cute red curls, then theres the fact that I did not even see Meredith at all I dont think she will be in the show which is odd because she is Ellenas best friend..oh and last but not least they traded Ellenas cute little sister for a drugged out teenage brother???? very dissapointing Of course if I had not read the books I may have really liked the show lol

I watched it too when it aired on Thursday night. I was curious to see how it would do in the ratings, so on Friday morning I went to look. It actually had the best ratings ever for a series premiere of a show on the CW. I have never read the books. A lot of fans felt the same way when Twlight came out as a movie. I've never read those books either. I read complaints about scenes being cut, characters not looking like they were described in the books... Being just a casual viewer having no expectations, I have to say I like The Vampire Diaries. It wasn't my favorite series premiere ever (that would have to go to the very first episode every of Supernatural), but it was enough that I will tune in next week. I never would have recognized the guy who plays Damon as the guy who was Boone on Lost. I think it has a lot of promise. And it is edgier than Twilight, so it has that going for it. : ) But if I were watching a show based on a series of books I enjoyed, I'd probably be just as disappointed as you are.

I had a few complaints about Twilight as well but not as many lol..the biggest one for twilight for me is I wish it would have been longer like a Stephen king movie lol so they could have added a lot of the little things I loved about the book :P Vampire Diaries was a good show I just had too many expectations I guess because the books are one of my favorite series lol funny thing is the thing that bugged me the most was that the Changed the name of the Town lol it is supposed to be Fells Church I knew I recognized Damon from something lol thanks that was bugging me hehe

When people made Twilight, they said they had to cut things out to make the film time "movie friendly". But I think they missed the point. The movie goers who read the books, who went to see the movie would have gladly sat in that theater longer. I watched the movie when it came out on DVD. But I didn't pause it once. I watched it all the way through. By the way, did you see the newest trailer for "New Moon"? Since I've never read the series of books, it is exciting for me to see what will be coming up in the movie.

I watched the show first and just now have started on the books. I feel almost the opposite of you. After being introduced to Elena and Stefan on the show, Jeremy, Matt and Vicki, Jenna, Bonnie and Caroline, it was disappointing to ME to see that Jenna was someone named Judith (who was old), Jeremy was a four year old named MARGARET, and Caroline was spiteful and evil instead of actually being one of Elena's friends. Damon is pretty much the same in both the books and the show - except that he is almost completely evil in the books. In the show he does show a shred or two of long lost humanity from time to time.

Hi! I'm a huge fan of both the book and the series. WHen I first read that they were making a series of it, I got very excited, but I told myself beforehand that it would be really different from the book. Although I'm as disappointed as you for the whole Meridith and Margaret thing, I gave the series a shot, and now I would trade any TV show for it. The storyline is really great, plus Ian Somerhalder, the guy who plays Damon really portrays his character well, to even the littlest detail of Damon's (the book version vampire) side smile. Plus, Stefan's a bit more fun here compared to the book. I would recommend that you try watching it, it's really good.
