I just got a call from my friend who is 9 months pregnant. She had a shocking story to share with me. She got caught in a lift with seven other people including a handicapped on a wheel chair. They waited for around one hour to get the problem fixed. Have you ever got caught in a lift (elevator)?

yES FRIEND DALIAJ I was stuck up in lift with my son when we were going up. I keep my head cool and call the nearest person by shouting. One of them listen my voice and take me out of the lift.It was a great experience.

You were lucky that there were somebody to help you out when you were in trouble, but it won't happen with everybody. Soemtimes the lift get stuck when the power get off. That time there won't be any power in the lift. A few people will be standing in a small area in darkness and sweating. It is a horrible situation. Thanks for the response.

Oh if it's a pregnant lady, then the scenario is worst then as she may suffer from suffocation and pregnant means the rate of suffocation would be quite high. I have been caught in the lift for more than 7 to 8 times but fortunately i would be the only person to get caught and hence the suffocation factor is ruled out. On three occassions, I have been caught in lift along with my two friends. But I never get panic. I would press the emergency button and wait for the security to come and open the lift. If it is a 10*12 size lift and if 4 of you are caught inside, you can survive for more than 19 hours and I read this information in an article and I am sure that within 2 hours itself we could definitely come out with the help of security guards presence.

You got caught in a life seven to eight times?? It is a big number. Now a days, it is easy to come out since we all have mobile phones with us and thus we will be able to contact one person or the other to help us to come out. Once my friends got caught in a lift in basement and harly one person's phone had network coverage. Thanks for the response.

hi daliaj yes years back when I went back to the U to get my degree I was caught all alone in the elevator and it stopped just about ten inched from where it was supposed to and the door opened. So several young men students helped me to climb out of the elevator by putting a small sturdy stool in the elevator which brought the height equal to the floor outside and I just stepped up on the stool then walked onto the floor of the library at the University Of Cal at Irvine. I was at the time already 54 and slightly physically handicapped too.

Yes, it is a sad situation. I can't think of being caught in lift even if I am in a normal situation. I have never got caught in a life. Many of my friends have faced the situation. One of the lifts in my company building often get stuck. Once, my friends go stuck in the basement and there was no phone signal to call somebody. Thanks for the response.

Well I remember I was taking the lift to go upstairs to where I had to sit for an examination and the lift just stopped, we were among seven people inside and we were all afraid as it seemed that the lift was about to break up and gets down, but actually nothing like that happened and we had to wait to some one minutes till some three men came and helped us outside so we were really lucky these people were there because we were later told that these people came only because there was an examination and they were taking precautions so if ever we were in the lift some other day we might have to wait for more than two minutes.

You were lucky that somebody knew about the issue and offered a helping hand. It is fine to wait for a few minutes, but I can't think of standing in that small space in hour basis. I am afraid about getting caught in lifts because we don't have an option if there is a fire and there won't be anybody to help us if it is a night time. Thanks for the response.

Thank god! It was only for two minutes. I am a person who is not patient. My office is in sixth floor.I am not patient enought to wait till the lift reaches sixth floor. I will get irritated if there were too many peopel to get down at different floors. I can't imagine being in the lift for one hour with no proper air to breath and with no lights and fan on if it is power failure. Thanks for the response.

Hi daliaj, It is sad to know that your pregnant friend caught in lift. Luckily she was not alone so she would not have any scare. No, I never caught in lift and you know if I am alone I will try my best to avoid a lift. I really scared on lifts especially I am alone. I don’t have much weight so it is not a problem for me to climb steps.

So far NO! but i would like to at least once ;) Just for fun. I think it will be scary if there is no space to breath and with todays technology i think we don't have to worry. There are so many ways to fix this problem immediately. It is surly dangerous if the lift is packed up, otherwise its okay. One thing to be followed is that we should see to that, when entering a lift we should maintain or advice others not exceed the defined kg. or the no. of person entering the lift, then thing will be fine... :)

yes, i had that experience too. it happened when we were going down and then the power was off. we were full inside and someone forced open the door and i saw that we were a little above one floor. some people from that floor had to get a table for us to step down. it was a terrible experience. good we were able to get out as the distance to the lower floor was just manageable.
