Stink Bugs

They come from Asia, and they can have 'em all back! The last few years, we in the eastern parts of Pennsylvania have seen the arrival of THE STINK BUG. Now this shield shaped beetle can vary in size from pinky fingernail size to 1/2 an inch across. They have very few natural predators, in fact, almost nothing eats these foul smelling bugs. They release a sent EVERY time the land, it works like a homing device, so they can find your house later. They live about two years (not if I get my flip flops on em!), burrowing into the soffets/siding and attics of homes & barns. They go into a suspended state when cold, so you think they're dead but they're not. Sqishing under shoes to insure death is best, IMO. The have hard shells and very a good defense system against insecticides. The dogs wont play outside, because these bugs land on them and release this scent, which you know must be pretty bad if a DOG dislikes it (they roll in some really nasty smelling stuff, if allowed). You can't hang your wash out to dry. You can't let your dogs out, hell, you can't open a solid door without them flying at you or falling onto you (they have terrible navigation skills)!!! They get caught in hair. They climb into clothing, uninvited... just EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW Do you have stink bugs? Do you know a way to make them go away besides using CYPERMETHRIN? I can handle spiders, they have a purpose, flies too, annoying as they are, but stinkers have ZERO to offer back to the environment. I don't know how to put a photo up, so anyone with that ability is free to do so!

Ugh we get them over here in Italy too They start around the end of August when the evenings start turning cooler and we are plagued with them if there are trees and bushes nearby. They come in on the washing I don't swat them as they stink even more. I catch them with some tissue and throw them down the toilet

Hi JodiLynn! Yes, down south we have these pests. And they are a nast, vile pest. The best i can offer is keep swatting them with your shoe, and you could have a bug light. W have a 1/2 acre light and it seems to keep them from coming up to the house wth their vile, smelliness. I always tell my children to do not hit these nasty things when they are close to the house, as the smell permeates their clothes. Good luck with these major, stinking pests.

You guys have them year round! I feel for you! I keep my shop vac plugged in and suck em up, we put dryer sheets in the tank of the Vac so it doesn't stink so bad.

unfortunately stink bugs are a product of their environment..they are plant feeding bugs that if you are near where they have an abundance of food there may not be a lot you can do to stop them, just having to address them as they arrive.
