I suffer from very dry skin, which seems to get worse as the years go by, so I am always on the lookout for anything that might give me some relief. I found this article on five really good ways to combat dry skin on about.com:http://skincare.about.com/od/facialcleansers/tp/SkinSavingTips.htm. One of the worst things you can do if you suffer from dry skin is to use water that is too hot. For many years I bathed in too-hot water, and I believe that led to some of the problems I am now having with my skin. I have provided a link for those of you who would like to check out the article. What are some of your dry skin remedies?

I have more problems with dry skin in the colder months than I do in the warmer months. I have heard that bathing or washing in water that it too hot will dry out your skin, but I have also heard that if you moisturize while your bady is still damp, even if the water was hot, it helps to retain the moisture. My problem is that I do not drink enough water to help my skin as I should, and I am always forgetting to use moisturizer.

Drinking plenty water is essential for keeping your skin moisturized, lynnemg, and I know that I don't drink enough. I also don't use moisturizer as often as I should.

Usually on the winter times, my skin get really-really dry. Usually vaseline really good. I'm not so picky about the body lotion. Usually I just put a little bit more and that's it.

Most lotions work very well, ibuemma, but I add some vaseline to give it an extra boost.

I think a good remedy is to eat healthy oils to soften and moisturize from the inside out. Another thing is to drink plenty of water and fruit juices. I like to put Vicks Vaporub on my feet and wear socks to bed. My feet stay soft and smooth that way.

I had not heard of using the Vicks on your feet, GG, but I'm desperate enough to try about anything!I am seriously lagging on drinking enough water. I drink too much coffee.

The best remedy I know is use Vesaline or Coconut oil on the skin not on the face. Ponds is offering lot of creams which work very well on Dry skins. My skin is bit oily, so, I get dry skin problem only in winter or if I go to places where climate is dry and hot. Then I usually use Vasline or coconut oil on the body and on face use creams which removes dryness on my face..

I agree, madhuvamsi, that Vaseline works very well because it holds the moisture in. I used some Ponds products many years ago, and will have to look into them again.

I have horrible dry skin. I have had this problem since I was a kid. In kindergarten they use to call me old lady hands. Pretty traumatic. Some of the things I use now are Avon's Skin So Soft, baby oil and lots of expensive lotions for extremely dry skin. Now that I'm in my mid 40's it is worse. I pretty much flake and can't keep moisture in my skin. I have to moisturize at least 2 a day so I don't itch. Something that I do like from Jergens and I think Keri has one too is their Shea Butter lotions. They work really well. However, if you don't like the greasy feeling, don't use any of what I have recommended in this post. Because if your body doesn't soak it up right away like mine does, you will be greasy. I was surprised to find that Avon's Moisture Therapy line is very effective for my skin and is less than Keri and Nutragena lines. That's what I use for my skin. Now for my face it's Olay regenerist. That is the bomb!!!!!

Sounds like you have done your homework, stacysmomstl! Several years ago I started using Neutrogena Sesame Oiland got some fairly good results. Now that I'm in my 60s my skin is drier than ever, so I've resorted to using a good lotion and mixing in an adequate amount of vaseline. The body butters are excellent for combatting dry skin also. I will have to try the Olay Regenerist.

I think you'll be happy with it. I went to my local Macy's store for a foundation and the girl behind the counter said to me "doesn't look like you need foundation." I told her yes I do cause I'm in my mid 40's. I wanted to try something different than the Mary Kay foundation I was using. She said ok but your skin looks great. She claims she couldn't tell I was in my mid 40's. Might have been a sales ploy. Anyway, she said what do you use on your face. I told her the Olay regenerist line. She said well It's working for you. So I'm like, cool. I'll keep using it. LOL

I use Vaseline intensive care cream but it does not work too well. It makes my nail cuticles hard and still dry and then I pick at them. My feet and lower legs are very dry and scaly but I cannot reach them to massage the cream in. They look terrible.

I tend to suffer a little with this! My problem area is around the side of the nose, the skin here is always dry and flaking so I have to use some vaseline in order to try and condition and moisturise the area. Thankfully this is the only thing I can think of. All is well otherwise. Andrew

Hello Worldwise, I have what is called combination skin, there are times when my skin is very oily and there is times when my skin seem to be very dry, never the less it is both dry and oily at the same time most of the times, so what I do is use my handmade shebutter oatmeal soap, I make this soap wit no artifical colors or scents, and it has been working out really well now for about one year now.

I have problems mostly with my dry patches on my hands. I use a store brand moisturize on them and it work real well. I have the problem year round and if I do not put the moisturize on my hand than I get the dry pathces.

I too had the same problem but i found out a trick to reduce for me to reduce its effect it was by using COCONUT OIL ..It smoothened my skin and relived it from all skin problems...I also advice you to drink a lot of water and allow yourself to SWEAT..It can yield good result,,also avoid if you are using any anti sweating body sprays and skin creams....

Hi, worldwise I have never experienced severe dry skin. I guess the tip I can give you is to drink lots and lots of water. Also, after taking a bath/shower, I smooth on lotion all over my body while my skin is damp. Have a nice day!
