After the storm

I opened a discussion on Saturday when Ondoy was bringing rain and floods in Manila. I was wishing everyone to be safe, but as night fell, we could only listen to the pleas of help from people who were trapped in their houses. For me, we had no water, electricity or phone lines (even signal for our cellphones) for the last 48 hours. But I am still thankful because my family is safe and this is just an inconvenience of having no water or electricity. It is good that we have drinking water and food. One thing we did not have was batteries for our transistor radio. But I just want my mylot friends to know that I am safe. The power and phone has just been restored and my heart still breaks over the news of so much devastation.

A lot of us are really fortunate and it saddens us to hear of the others who are still in dire need of help. People who have lost everything they own and some even their loved ones. It is in times like these, that the true spirit of the Filipino is shown. A lot of people have come up with their own ways of helping out in this difficult times. I am glad that all is well now with your family and let us continue to pray for those still suffering. Though according to the news there is another storm that will come by the end of this week. So let us continue to pray that it would change direction or something as many people are still yet to recover from the effects that the storm has brought.

It was very unfortunate indeed that still a lot of people have not ben rescued from their homes in the middle of the night. We in our safe homes far from the storm could only imagine what everyone out there have gone through. There were bravery, kindness and humility seen during these trying times. I always believe that there's always a rainbow after every storm. We should not lose hope. I also believe that the people will be strong and can conquer victory over these trials. After the storm it's tiem for us to reflect on the blessings we still have like being alive. And we must also reflect on the important things we must do during an emergency. The country has still storms on the way natural or man-made but I know as a people we are resilient and and have a strong faith no matter what.
