What in the world is wron with all these people texting in class? at my school in a class of about 25 students about 10-15 of them are texting, when the teacher is looking at the white board. All of htem haveb been caught atlease onece, and then they have to let the office have their phone for 3 days and then their parents have to comeget and and pay teh office 5 bucks. I myself and one of the few that has never texted in class, because i strongly feel that school is for learning not fun. What do you guys think is it worth getting your phone taken away for 3 days and haveing to pay 5 bucks just to have to wait 45 minuts to text in the hallway(we are allowed to use phones in passing times) what do youguys think the punishment should be? Thanks and thank you for reading.

Well, I think it is wrong that kids are texting when they should be learning, but I think it's absolutely insane to make the parents pay $5 every time the phone is confiscated. It's pretty insulting to me that they think they can take away my kids property and make me pay them to get it back. I can totally understand detention, suspension, any type of punishment, besides charging the parents money. For one, where does that money go? Who pockets the fees that build up from these kids? You know, the parents are probably paying for the faculties lunches everyday with the fees from confiscations. So, if the school makes some kind of mistake, can I charge the person who messed up? No...

When i was still in school, having a cell phone of your own as a kid was unheard of, so i never had to deal with any of those problems. But i do know that most school now have had to enact some sort new rules to combat these issues. I, like you, just don't see what the big deal is, and why they can't wait until break. I have my phone on me at work, on silent, and if it vibrates for either a text or call, i might look only to see who it is from, and even THAT is pushing it for me..in fact the only reason i keep it on me instead of leaving it in my purse in my locker is because my mother has some serious health issues, and i want to make sure to get any calls reguarding her. If it IS her or my father (who know not to call me during work hours unless it is important) then i will take my break and call them back immediately.

I am not very fond of texting, I mean it has its use. It is not really texting I have the problem with it is the people who do it at bad and rude times like when they are driving, or during a class, or when you are talking to them. It makes me want to smack the phone out of someone's hands when I am talking to them and they are sitting there typing in to their phone. It is also rude and disrespectful to do during class. It is not worth losing your phone over, and what is so important that can't wait?

Cellphone is included in our daily necessities already. It seems as if we lack something if we don't use our cellphone everyday. But the school should make it a point that no student can bring his/her cellphone when in class. They might use it for cheating. As a rule i.e., any student caught more than three times using a cellphone inside the class shall be suspended for a week or it depends on the school administrator. My sister's school does that so can others.

I text in class and still learn. If you don't get caught and don't do it non-stop then I don't see whats wrong with it. Sometimes you have to ask someone something before the end of class or maybe its really important. I don't see whats wrong with it. It's the ones who do it non-stop all class that get it taken away.

Hi, invincible Nope, the penalty is not worth it. It seems that your classmates are just not thinking straight. Good for you, you sound like you have mature thinking and that you know your priorities. As for me, I don't think I would ever be caught using my cellphone when it's prohibited. I am a lazy texter. Most of the time, I would rather call than send text messages Have a nice day!

It is definitely wrong to text while in the class room. One good way would be to ban the use of cell phones in colleges and the college must provide lot of coin booths or phones that can be used by students while in college.

I feel for you invincible 0921. The youth is wasted on the young. These people do not realize the value of education and what their parents are doing just so they can sit in class and text. I think it is but right that those caught should suffer the consequences of their act. If you just confiscate the phone, the kids can just lie to their parents if asked about it or they can hide from the their parents so that they won't notice that their cellphones are gone. I think it is a good policy to make the parents aware of the disciplinary problem, and make them pay for it. The parents can always refuse to come and get the cellphone of their erring teenager. Since the ones caught are text-addicts, storng measures should be applied. I applaud your school.

Thats right buddy....these punishment will just not be enough...I am right now doing my college...Though the head university has declared that mobiles phones can be used by college students inside campus, my college management never encourages that.....(Still many of the students are managing to use it secretly thats different)..... We should increase the penalty so that they never dare to pay it more number of times else we shall suspend them on the lad sessions so that they understand their fault....

Yeah agree, school is for education, to make something of yourself. now if those were my kids i wouldnt give them a full service phone, just calls incase i need to get a hold of them, or so i know where they are or emergencies. now if they get caught and the office takes it then, i would just let the office have it, i wouldnt get it back so they will learned to appreciate things. phone is a priveledge, not a right, i would discontinued the service on the phone and is gonna take them a while to earn that priveledge back. that's what i would do. parents give full services on their kids cellphone, it distract them, and they never know what can they be doing on their cellphones.

I am a Fan of Text Messaging I love it.I can not really comment because its just that I have been text messaging for about 2 years and I cant stop. But I do believe that text messaging in school is not good because you go to school to have an education not to have fun in class. :-)

School should be for learning, not texting but unfortunately, to many teens/young adults, social life is more important. I'm no saint, I was guilty of it in high school as well and at that time I saw no harm in it and thought the teachers were just mean for taking them, but when I look back now I see that education truly IS the key to the future. Fortunately I still maintained all A's but I do wish I would have played less and studied more.

It is the new and upcoming way to cheat on tests too. I don't understand why they are even allowed in school. They should be left in lockers.

rather rude isn't it, the things kids can do now. they shouldn't allow phones in school, there's no need for them. i know i'm only young and phones were just coming out when i finished school, and most kids have them now. i know our school doesn't allow phones on the bus cause of cyber bullieing.

hehehe.. when i was in college, this was an offensive act -- you get an automatic written warning if you're caught in the act by the dean. some instructors just let it pass but you'll get the attention of everybody once caught. i always make sure my phone is in vibration/silent mode just to make sure i don't get the warning. good thing i don't like texting that much.

When I was in school, cell phones weren't even around. I do have grandkids, who aren't even allowed to take their phone to school. I think that is smart too, as my oldest grandchild is 14, and if he had his way, he would text in school, but since he can't take it to school, he doesn't have the opportunity to do so. He isn't happy about it either, but I do agree with his dad that he shouldn't take it to school. I think the kids nowadays, put to much emphasis on texting and not doing what they should while they are in school. They have plenty of time to text when they are home, but I don't think they should be alowed to een have cell phones in school. I think a lot of the responsibility lies ith the parents, as they need to make sure they can't text. That is just my opinion, and others might have a different opinion. Take care, and happy mylotting.

That is totally wrong. Texting while in class should not be allowed. If I were the teacher, I would have to put all cellphones inside a box and they can have them after the class. How can a student concentrate if one's attention is focused on the texting.

I too strongly feel that children shouldnt be let to use phone in schools let alone in class rooms. Here in India, it was allowed before, but in certain schools, they have kept jammers as students were sneaking to text and make calls during class. School going children neednt be given phones. I do not understand the need of school children using mobile phones, they sit with friends and text to them!!! There are very few children like you, who abide by the school rules. I agree with you, class hours are strictly for learning.

Cellphones are basically aneed nowadays. Almost evryone owns one. Although we need it, we have to respect and not to use the phone inside the class especially if someone is talking in front of the class. It is very rude. The school must definitely have rules to impose to make the students realize that nobody should be texting in class.
