Yes ....I am the one and Durian is one of my favourite fruit. Durian is a Malay and Indonesian name, which the word "DURI" means spine. Durian has a strong smell and some people don't like this kind of smell. That is why it is prohibited to bring durian fruit on board the plane and to the hotel room. Durian season is coming forward to my country.I can see alot of people start to sell durians along the street. I like to eat durian with bit of sweet and sour taste, that is the best. I ever make durian cheesecake few years back and till now,I still miss it. I do hope I can have some free time to make a durian cheesecake again. I also like to eat durian ( fridged for one night)with rice. It is amazing.Do give it a try if you never eat durian with rice. Always remember to drink salt water using the durian inner part to avoid heatiness in your body. And wash your hand using the durian inner part will get rid off the durian smell. Share with me whether are you a durian fruit lover?? Is it easy to get durian fruit at your country?

My husband, my sister, my mum just loves durian. But since my son turned 3, we hardly eat durian he hate the smell of it, if he sees it, he will covered his nose and hurriedly walk off. Very Strange, papa + mama loves durian son should loves durian too! but the equation is wrong, son hates durian! Durian : either you love it OR you hate it! But now my sister don't care about my son, she bought durian every Wednesday (night market) and give my son two choice, either join us to eat Or go inside his room! When we are young, we also eat rice with durian...however, nowadays I love durian that has been chilled in the fridge, it taste GREAT! I too practice this advise from my mum :~ drink salt water using the durian inner part to avoid heatiness in your body. And wash your hand using the durian inner part will get rid off the durian smell. We also buy the queen of fruit (mangosteen) to eat together with king of fruit (durian) to neutralise the heatiness..

Hi Iriene, Oh...is it really mangosteen can neutralise the heatiness in the body?? It is the first time I got to know about it.Thanks for informing me !! But it is hard to get a mangosteen at my place here. Both me and husband are durian lover, but not for my son. He also does not like durian and everytime I ask him want to eat, he will walk away and say "don't want",Okay...since he does not like to eat,so me and husband can enjoy our durian fruit without his disturbance. I also like to eat chilled durian, best to mixed with steam rice, the taste is even great.

Hi James, I just know that drinking coconut after eating durian is good remedy to bring down the heatiness in our body. Thanks for sharing this useful tips. What I know is eating mangosteen after durian is good too,but I am yet to try it out.

Iriene, You are absolutely right: You either love durians or love to hate durians. You can also take coconut water to neutralize the heatiness of durians as coconut water is cooing. Chilled durians also taste good.

You are the second person to talk about Durian fruit to me. Our other Malasia friend Ikbooi also wrote about this fruit before and she is the person who told about this fruit. Unfortunately I do not get it in India or at least I have not seen it. Since you are all praising it so much, I very much want to taste the fruit. I hope chance will come in future. Ikbooi uploaded the image of Durian. The colour is attractive. I am satisfied only with the colour right now.

Please PM me Buchi, in case you visit Malaysia. I will entertain you with the good quality durians But remember to come here during its season. I think it might be around January the following year, most probably. I hope the stinky smell, for people who gets the unique smell the first time, won’t make you to retreat from the unfamiliar smell To us it always smells heavenly

Hi Buchi, I just know that back in India don't have durian fruit. Never mind, next time when you have chance to travel to either Thailand or Malaysia or Singapore, you sure be able to taste this fruit by yours, then only you can determine whether you like this fruit or not. I can say that not all people love to eat durian,Some people just hate this strong smell from durian. They are plenty of types for durian.some will taste very sweet, some will have a bitter taste.Different country will have different type of durian. I can recommend to you if you have chance to go Singapore,do try the D24 durian there, that is one of the best durian in Singapore.

I LOVE DURIAN. I think the season is almost over here in my place. I ate lots of durians for the past few weeks. They were all from our own durian trees at my dad's village. I love them yellowish and creamy. I just love durian. My mom even made durian dessert, mixed with coconut milk, green beans, sago and a bit of brown sugar. They were yummy. I never ate them with rice though. I know some people can't stand the smell, but if I smell durians, I really want to have some.

Hi, Shia! It is very simple, but yet I never made it myself! My mom is a pro in cooking, so, just leave it that to her he he... It is actually called 'Pengat Durian'. You may try the recipe as follows:- Take out all the durians, then put them aside. Braise the green beans for a while and add in the coconut milk, brown sugar or 'gula melaka' and a few pieces of 'pandan' leaves. Cook and stir for a while, afterwards mix the durians inside, taste it, sprinkle a little salt, and last but not least, put the sago inside. Cook until the coconut milk becomes thick and soft, and it's ready to serve hot or cold. Some people may have different recipes, but these are all the ingredients that my mom normally uses. Try to look on the internet, you may find lots of yummy recipes of durians. Happy Cooking!!!

Hello Shia, I like durian too! It is the king of fruits! I like it so much before I get married. But after I get married and pregnant I don't know why I get some health issue every time I eat durians. Actually I am having asthmatic problem but don't know why I get more problems when pregnant. So I have cut down eating durians. I never get to try durian in sour taste? I know durian is so hot and heaty, and after eating durians I will have sore throat or feeling bad . I will try what you recommend here, drink salt water. But I can't get you about this : Always remember to drink salt water using the durian inner part??????? I like to eat durian that is fridged, is it indeed more tasty! I try eating durian with rice once! That was the time I so crazy about durian, and it was dinner time, I could not resist not to eat the durian that bought back by my sister, so I ate the durian together with my rice, quite nice, !

Hi Shia again, I forgot to ask you how about the durian in Indonesia? Is it better taste than Malaysia? I went to Bali Indonesia few months ago. And the driver who took us around for tour had mentioned wanted to bring us to try the durian in Ubud. He said those are Kampung durian and the flesh is so big one. But sad to say we went to Ubud but totally forgot about the durian, busy with the sight seeing... We had missed the KAmpung durians with big piece flesh

Now only I know Indonesia has so many different type of durians. Hope you get to eat some durians when you go back to your home town end of this year. Don't forget to drinks salt water! Hi Vingyan, Another durian lover.....I have not been buying any durian to eat for this year. I should buy some this coming weekend before the durian season is over. I love eating durian with warm steam rice...super yummy !! Oh...drink salt water after eat durian, what I mean is using the portion where the durian flesh stick there(after we eat the durian),add some salt into it and drink the salt water using the "durian". Hope you will get what I mean.I am not sure whether it is true or not,but I practised it everytime when I eat durian. Actually, the durian in Indonesia are different for every places.Like for my hometown, there are several kind of durian, from different part of kampung. The one I like most is from Tanjong Morawa and Berastagi.I been to the durian field and eat the durian fresh from the tree.

It tastes soooo greaat..It's a pity that durian is expensive in Indonesia, and it used to be a seasonal fruit..However, now I think I can see durian at any season, but still with such expensive price, duhhh!! Most of the time, I will go to the roadside ,sit down there and enjoy my durian session at night. I never tried durian from Thailand...just wondering how it taste? I remembered there is once my father got free durian from his friend,it is super big and the flesh is so sticky and smell good.Maybe that is from Thailand one. I like to eat fridged durian with warm steam rice...that is the best.

I'm one of those people who don't like durian because of its smell. I just can't stand it. I've tasted durian before, and I know that it's delicious, but the smell just overpowers my desire to eat it. For me, the smell of food is just as important as the taste. No matter how delicious a food is, if it smells bad I would most likely not eat it.

It was like someone made an ice cream pop out of cabbage or onions that had started to go bad. I never thought of the smell that way. I just think it smells bad. That's a really nice (or rather gross) way to describe the smell of durian.

hello shia, its durian season here in our place. when its not in season, the fruit usually fetches to about Php50/kilo but now its Php20-35/kilo. i love to eat durian. its pungent smell is like heaven to me. drinking salt water is new to me. but washing hands in the durian cover is a usual thing here for the same reason, to remove the smell from the hands. but a caution: this fruit should be eaten in moderation especially for people with hypertension. medically i cannot explain though. thank you for this discussion. ann

Last few days my husband 's uncle gave us some,it taste great. At my place durian is selling around Rm10-Rm5/piece,It is depend on the size of the durian too. Some bigger size can hit till RM15/piece. I normally will just buy the medium size,it is not worthy to go for big size if the taste of the durian is not good.I prefer to eat durian with bit of bitter and sweet taste.

Yummy! Me and my husband love durian, The "King" of fruits! Normally I will buy the prepacked durians from supermarket. It normally sells with reasonable price and the best thing is, the seller has done the most toughest job in opening the outer skin of the durian. So it will save our effort in the work. Of course the prepacked durians are not as good as the fresh one but I am still okay with it, as long as it is still eatable. I like durian has sweet and bitter taste. I can easily eat about 8 pieces of fleshy durians at one go. I can just substitute my main food with durians. I have heard my mom talking about eating durian with rice but I never tried once. To be honest, I feel it is a odd combination, but never try never know. Will definitely screw up my courage and try.

Hi Shuetyeng, I used to buy pre-packed durian from supermarket when I was in Singapore. it is more convenience as I don't know how to open up a durian. Just pay for the money and can eat the durian straighforward. At my place here, there is no pre-packed durians. So all the time, the opening of durians is even done by my husband or my mother-in-law and my job is to eat and eat nonstop. I can eat alot of durians at one go,more than 10 pieces especially with the bitter taste. Next time ,you should try eating durian with plain rice. Remember to overnight the durian first, then it will taste even better.

HI Shuetyeng, I don't know how to open up the hard skin of durians and this job is done by my husband or my mother-in-law. My job is to eat the durians and enjoy the creamy flesh of durians. When I was In singapore, I used to buy pre-packed durians from fruit selller or supermarket.Sometimes, the taste can be good, but sometimes, it just taste normal.I guess it is a luck too. There is no D 24 durian at my place here.so only have kampung durians.I have no preference in term of durian,as long as the flesh is thick and have bit of sweet + bitter taste,it is good enough for me.

Hi Shia, I did not know that at your place did not sell prepacked durians. I thought it is quite common that it is available at cold storage. But luckily your husband and mother in law knows how to open the hard skin of the durian, or else you cannot full fill your hunger towards this tasty fruit. I wonder do you have any specific type of durians that you preferred? I know that D24 is well known of its strong taste and quality and of course its price is higher too. I have bought a pack of prepacked D24 for my parents and it was quite disappointed that they commented that the durians just taste like any other normal type of durians. I think I have been cheated by the seller. That's the disadvantage of buying prepacked durians because we did not watch them pack the fruit.

Durian is high in proteins. And as such this purine rich fruit will trigger the attack of gout. You can however, eat durians in moderation. You can also enjoy durians followed by taking Zyloric or allopurinol to reduce the uric content in your body.

Definitely shia. My husband teases and calls me durian king for I love durian so...o much I’m not only like eating durian I like to get it opened myself as well. I feel that the flesh tastes more delicious if taking it on-the-spot You would get another wonderful taste if eating together with plain rice with some cold water and a little bit of salt added to them. Of course you have to eat with free hand lol... we then could get the real and heavenly taste! I'm a huge freak of durian and I could enjoy taking it as my daily two meals. I always take some mangosteens after eating durian. The white, sweet and juice flesh would help to reduce the body heat if taking to much durians. If mangosteen is not available I would then take some salty cold water. It works well too Happy posting!

It's easy to find the fruit here in our country, the Philippines. A lot of people are selling it already, since it's in season. I just saw a group of people selling durian along a sidewalk yesterday. I am sorry, but I am one of those people who abhor the smell of the Durian. I get an allergy just by taking a whiff of the fruit. I find it offensive, both the smell and the taste.
