Modern tapdance or classical

I attend adult education classes in tap dance. It's good fun and keeps me fit. We recently got a new trainer and she is no longer playing traditional tap music, but modern songs. It kind of sounds wrong, but is really fun.
What do you think - does modern music have a place in tap dancing?

A big ol' YEAH to that one! Of course modern music has a place for traditional tap! Music and dance have been life partners. lol. I think it might be kind of interesting to try some traditional tap moves in modern music. Tap is, after all, based on rhythm. Put it on and see how it moves ya! lol. What is the "modern" music your instructor is using?
