I love gardening but I prefer to grow vegetables. Tomatoes are my absolute favorite! The plants smell sooo wonderful, they grow up big and beautiful and I just love the taste of homegrown tomatoes! I also enjoy growing sunflowers. They just put a big smile on my face to see them in full bloom! Plus, once the cooler weather comes, I have no problem collecting all the seeds for later growing or to give to wildlife (chipmunks and deer, mainly). Roses are beautiful but the only plant I do have doesn't seem to produce too well. I like them when they bloom, but I'd rather have sunflowers!

Roses are my favorite flower and I do have quite a few of them. 22 to be exact!! It really isn't so hard to grow roses like in the olden days. You can find some brands like Knock-Out, Simplicity, or Tesslar roses. All are shrub roses that will have many repeat blooms. Now, I can't predict how your weather will affect roses, but here are some tips: * Make sure the roses have at least 5 hours a day. * Mix in compost with the dirt when you plant. * If you live in colder weather, plant the knob(bud union) below the ground. Other wise, the bud union goes just above the ground. * Dig the hole to the depth of the roots and twice as wide around. There are tons of instructions on the web. Happy Gardening. P.S. I also love daylilies, they are easy to grow. In a few years you can dig them up, seperate them and plant more in other areas.

I like gardening but haven't had much luck. Plus, I live in apartment building, so I don't have much room to have any type of garden. Growing up my family always had a huge vegetable garden though. I still love fresh garden food.

From what I understand about roses, they are rather difficult to take care of...especially if you do it properly. There's a big bush of wild roses in my dad's back yard, which is a good 10 feet tall and bursts into LOTS of blossoms/blooms every year...and he does nothing to it! But they're dark red, almost maroon, which really isn't my favorite color, so I don't bother to even notice them usually. In my own garden, I have quite a few red flowers, but that's only to attract hummingbirds. Hopefully next spring I'll have more money and I can plant both for the birds, and my own enjoyment...I like yellow, white and blue-ish flowers. Except for the yellows, it'll be patriotic for me! I also want to have a couple fruits (strawberries and blackberries), too. About the only herb I ever bother with is mint...and despite it being considered a weed, I always end up killing mine. Better luck this next time, huh? LOL
