Hi Everyone! I have started several discussions about my favorite singers and here is another one. This is about "Michael Martin Murphey". For those of you who don't remember him, he had a big hit with a song called "Wildfire" about 1975. This is a beautiful song and I sing it a lot. Not only is Michael a good singer but he is also a cowboy. I understand he has a big ranch out in Taos, New Mexico. He is very much into cowboy poetry and he did a cd several years ago of cowboy songs. It includes songs liike "Home On The Range", "Tumbling Tumbleweeds", "Bury Me Not On The Lone Prairie", "The Old Chisholm Trail", to name a few. He also had a hit with songs such as "Carolina In The Pines", "What's Forever For", "You Come From A Long Line Of Love", "What She Wants", etc. He has also done cds titled "Cowboy Songs II", "Cowboy Songs III", "Cowboy Christmas", and "Horse Legends", which is my favorite of any of his cds. He is also instrumental in starting Westfest and as far as I know, it still occurs out in Colorado once a year. Also, according to pandora internet radio, same link, he recorded with Liberty Records in the early '80s then later moved to Warner Bros. where his interest in cowboy and native american subjects led to the Warner Western imprint.
