Hi Everyone! I have started several discussions about my favorite singers and here is another one. This is about "Michael Martin Murphey". For those of you who don't remember him, he had a big hit with a song called "Wildfire" about 1975. This is a beautiful song and I sing it a lot. Not only is Michael a good singer but he is also a cowboy. I understand he has a big ranch out in Taos, New Mexico. He is very much into cowboy poetry and he did a cd several years ago of cowboy songs. It includes songs liike "Home On The Range", "Tumbling Tumbleweeds", "Bury Me Not On The Lone Prairie", "The Old Chisholm Trail", to name a few. He also had a hit with songs such as "Carolina In The Pines", "What's Forever For", "You Come From A Long Line Of Love", "What She Wants", etc. He has also done cds titled "Cowboy Songs II", "Cowboy Songs III", "Cowboy Christmas", and "Horse Legends", which is my favorite of any of his cds. According to pandora internet radio, he is known as the cosmic cowboy because of one of his earlier songs. This is not a referral link: http://www.pandora.com/music/artist/michaelmartinmurphey. He is also instrumental in starting Westfest and as far as I know, it still occurs out in Colorado once a year. Also, according to pandora internet radio, same link, he recorded with Liberty Records in the early '80s then later moved to Warner Bros. where his interest in cowboy and native american subjects led to the Warner Western imprint. Do you remember Michael Martin Murphey? What are your favorite songs by him?

Hi anniefannie! I like classic rock, too. As a matter of fact, that's what I grew up listening to. I've just been listening to country music mostly for the last several years. What I listen to mainly is what they call new country, artists like Billy Ray Cyrus, Alan Jackson, Keith Urban, Martina McBride, to name a few. I haven't heard anything new from Michael Martin Murphey in a long time but I still consider "Wildfire" one of my favorite songs by him. I still consider him a favorite singer, too. Sinc e I have this new computer, I've been listening to a lot of classic rock songs on youtube and on pandora internet radio. Kathy.

Oh, yes, Michael Martin Murphey, is one of my favorite singers also! 'Wildfire' is my favorite song of his, but he has a lot of good songs, because he has a very good voice! I think he is at least doing what he likes, a romantic of the 'old west'!

Wildfire is also my favorite song by him. I hear he has a horse named "Wildfire" at his ranch. Have you ever seen him in concert? I never have, myself, but I sure would like to. Kathy.
