My 1 and a half year old kitten eats all the time. He eats things from tuna to crackers. He never asks for these things he jumps on the bed and takes it from you. He eats crackers and last night he ate a piece of licorich. We had gotten him from an Animal Shelter where he had free use of the place. He also jumps on the counters, the kitchen table and also likes to watch me take a shower. What can I do?

Wow!!! Is this a younger cat? Sounds like one who is quite active. I got a kitten one time no matter what you did, you could not train him. He made messes everywhere, and had to find someone else who would take him.

He is 5 years old and is a pretty good cat except he eats everything in sight and loves to watch tv (the young and the restless is his favorite). He hates my sewing machine he hisses at it. I love him too much to get rid of.

give him his food at specific time each day so he knows when he is to eat. show him where his food and litterbox is at, so he can go there on his own. and during the other times, keep him busy with what he likes to play with. my cat enjoys scratch boards, posts, and cat tree. he likes sitting by windows. buy him his favorite toys. i think ur cat just needs attention.

thank you fifileigh. I give him attention and he does have plenty of toys to play with. He keeps his toys all over the house.

Hope this is resolved by now lol. I had a cat that did that but as soon as snapped my fingers he knew to get down. They certainly are more human then we give them credit for sometimes.

Hi randylovesdar, you say 1 and a half year old? I think that's a big cat already, your cat might be a little bit old to teach some do's and don't but I'm sure your cat can still learn, it's just up to you how you will teach him/her, anyway you try using some cat repellant so that your cat will keep away from places where he/she is off limited.

Thank you for the water suggestion, however, Smiles loves water. As a matter of fact he jumps in the shower with me. I try to squirt him and he thinks he is playing with him.

Get a clean spray bottle and fill it with water. When your cat jumps on the counter, spray him with the water, he'll hate it. After he gets sprayed a few times, he'll learn not to jump on the counter. Don't become abusive with the water, only do it when he's doing something bad.

I agree with spraying him too. Add a little bit of vinegar to the water is very effective. It won't hurt him but will sure get his attention.

I think you should invest in a good squirt bottle and squirt his little cat behind when he starts doing things you don't like. He will get the messsage soon enough. They always do.
