You have downloaded a torrent file. Now you need a software like utorrent or Bittorrent to use that file. Install any of the above mentioned software and then open the 'small file' you have already downloaded using that software. The file that you want(in this case a software) will start downloading automatically.Hope this helps you.

To use the Bittorrent protocol you'll need a BT client. uTorrent, Azureus (or whatever it's called these days), Bittorrent itself, whatever. When you download and install that client, the torrent file will be used by it in order to download whatever files it is associated to within the small .torrent file you downloaded. Simple as that for the basic part of it.

You should use a torrent downloader software, it's free. There's a lot of them like bitcomet and utorrent, etc. you can choose what ever you want. Just save the torrent file until you have the downloader, after installing it you can open the torrent file there and you will see the file you want to DL.

You'll need to get some kind of torrent program in order to download that software you wanted. There's a wide variety to choose from out there. I think there's uTorrent, BitTorrent, Bit Comet, and a host of others. I mostly use Bit Comet so I'm not sure how good the others are. Anyways, you can download any of those for free. Install it on your computer and then you have to open up that small file you previously downloaded and that's it. The speed of the download depends on how many seeds or new that program is. The healthier the better. Otherwise you're going to have a long wait.

Torrent is a file that downloads other files or programs/software. The only way to open a torrent in your computer is to have a torrent downloader, just like what the others say, I myself am using frostwire. It's free and convenient to my needs. There are other softwares that can interpret a torrent and they are all free.

You should also consider the term seeds and peers on a torrent, seeds shows the number of those with the complete files which is actively sharing while peers are the ones who are still downloading and already has some of the files but is also actively sharing the part they already downloaded. So when looking for a torrent, check if there are seeders, there might be a lot of peers but if no seeders, you'll just get stuck with only a portion of the file so select those with plenty of seeders, and remember, seed after you finished downloading. cheers!
