We have adopted three children from the foster care system. We also have seven biological children, four have either married or are off at college, six still live at home. Our last two babies were drug babies. One was already two and a half when she came to live with us, so she was over any withdrawals. Her baby brother, a full sibling, came to live with us when she was four years old and he was almost six months, so he was still withdrawing, but was the through the very worst of it. All our children are smart, beautiful, and a joy to behold and raise. So many children are in the foster care system who need homes. Would you consider adopting a drug addicted baby? My oldest son says most people wouldn't.

I put my kids' up for adoption because, I could not raise them on my own with their father denying them. I thought about what was best for them and wanted to give them things that I could not give them being a single mom. I made a difficult choice that I never thought I could do and that was give up my own flesh and blood. My mom had told me that her cousin Helen and her husband could not have kids' and they tried everything and, I said I want them to have my kids'. I would then know that they were all together and have anything and everything they could ever want or need. I to this day get updates about them as well as pictures. I had an open adoption and I am so glad I did because, I can still watch them grow up.

How old were the children when you let them go?

It is a lot of responsibility for many people. There are many people that are concentrated on a busy life. I think I would adopt a special needs child. I have patience and love. It takes a special person to do what you are doing. Keep it up!
