For those of you outside of Indonesia, emping is a snack made from melinjo tree. It's more of a cracker, actually. It tastes a bit bitter but you don't eat them plainly and raw. First you fry them and then I eat them with sweet soysauce or just salt to make them tasty. Some varieties of emping are emping pedas and emping manis, which means spicy emping and sweet emping in English. You can click the image to see them. So Indonesian, please give your opinion on emping.:)

My parents like emping so much and that's what I've been telling them. They're in their fourties now so I'm afraid they'll get asam urat. LOL! I'm not limiting my emping consumption though since I think my age is still young :)

Yeah lordcaocao. You reminded me of the phrase "It's now or never".. But I guess they use it in a different context, huh? LOL!

While you still young you should enjoy emping. Since if you are getting older your body will become more vulnerable to disease and asam urat. So make sure you enjoy now or else, when you get old, even if you want to eat emping, you can't since it will give you disease.

I do not particularly like emping, because every meal emping I felt dizzy. but I often eat emping with sticky tape. it felt good. but I did not dare to eat in large quantities. I must have a headache if I eat a lot.

I heard that emping does have that kind of effects for some people. I'm lucky I don't feel that sickness because of emping.

I stay in India and I have heard about Emping from my uncle who stays in Jakarta. It is not available in my country and hence I had no chance to taste emping till date. I am scheduled to visit Indonesia next year and I'll definitely try this item. Thanks for letting me know about this item and have a cool day. Happy Mylotting

We have emping in Malaysia. I believe it is imported from Indonesia. Yes it tastes a bit bitter, but 'garing.' As an appetizer it is superb.

They're great! I like them a lot actually. I could eat them with sweet soysauce and rice when there's no decent meal at home. LOL!
