Oh yes! I remember that song very much! It was quite a song, too, wasn't it? I used to sing it a lot and still do occasionally. I don't guess anybody ever really learned what they threw off the bridge, did they? I saw the movie several years ago and according to the movie, it was a doll they threw off the bridge. Also, according to the movie, she was pregnant when she left home. I'm in Alabama and this is not far from where I live. Kathy.

Yes, this was definitely a good song, and a good mystery in itself, we may not ever know what the songwriter had in her mind when she wrote it! Songs like this really intrigue me, because they may be so close to being actually happened!

oh i total loved that song. did you see the movie? i dont think the song meant the same as the movie implied. do you? why hasnt someone asked the writer what they were throwing off the bridge?

I seen the movie, and it was alright, and the song was really good ! I read an interview with Bobbie Gentry, and the way she put it, what she had in mind was not really one thing, she said, it pertained to a lot of things that happened there in her hometown ! I researched it on wikipedia !
